Dear Ones, I just got news my brother is having open heart surgery
tomorrow in Anniston, AL. I am leaving tonight and will stay with him
until he is released from the hospital since all his other family is
in California. Please pray for God's healing mercies and that Don will
be in as little pain as possible. Most of all pray he will respond to
the Gospel he has heard all is life... He is not yet saved and is
afraid...

Also pray that I may have a safe journey.

A bill in Congress makes it a crime for pastors and churches to speak against homosexuality

Message to pastors and other Christians: Just keep your mouth shut

Dear Richard,

If pastors and other Christians don't aggressively oppose a bill now in Congress, in the near future they will be subject to huge fines and prison terms if they say anything negative about homosexuality.

The proposed law would make it a crime to preach on Romans Chapter 1 or I Corinthians Chapter 6.  Or even to discuss them in a Sunday School class.  If churches and individuals want to keep the government from telling them what they can and cannot preach and teach about homosexuality, they better get involved now!

House bill H.R. 1592 and Senate bill S. 1105 would make negative statements concerning homosexuality, such as calling the practice of homosexuality a sin from the pulpit, a "hate crime" punishable by law. This dangerous legislation would take away your freedom of speech and your freedom of religion.  Consider what has already happened:

  • A California lawsuit which is headed to the U.S. Supreme Court would make the use of the words "natural family," "marriage" and "union of a man and a woman" a "hate speech" crime in government workplaces.  The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has already ruled in favor of the plaintiffs! 

  • CNN and The Washington Post both reported that General Peter Pace, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was fired because he publicly expressed moral opposition to homosexual behavior.

Here's a copy of today's blog... Just to keep in touch
Richard is eating cereal from his University of Alabama "Crimson Tide" glass. Well, actually it's a tall plastic cup. "This cup cost a lot of money, " he tells me between spoonfulls of Raisin Bran and 2% milk. When we lived in Dothan, Alabama, Richard used to attend some of the Tide's home games with his friend Dennis. Football isn't cheap, nor is anything associated with it, yet it continues to enthrall millions (I'm not one of them) who happily pay outrageous prices for tickets, paraphernalia, refreshments and keepsakes. I hear this year's Super Bowl was watched by record-breaking numbers of fans. Again, I wasn't one of them, but after we got home from Bible Study last night, Richard joined the avid throngs in front of TVs everywhere and stayed until the last second ticked off the clock. He says he did better than one of the coaches did. The man walked off the field before the clock ran out. How RUDE! But back to the glass of cereal. I've never seen anyone eat cereal like Richard does, out of a tall glass. We all have little quirky things about us and it seems one of my friends has "tagged" me to list 10 little known facts about myself. My granddaughter says we need to list six. In both cases, I found it interesting to learn the little known facts in their lists. So, having been challenged to do the same, I hereby submit my list and challenge you to create and publish your own list. 10 Little Known Facts About Iona 1. I love pigs. I once owned one of the largest pigs known. We raised pigs for a while and this one was a dying runt that I fed with a bottle and fell in love with. Vets who came out from CSU vet school in Ft. Collins, Colorado thought he had a pituitary tumor because Rooty continued to grow and grow and grow! They felt he was perhaps the largest pig alive. 2. I have been in all the "lower 48" states. I drove truck on and off for years and was blessed to travel all over this beautiful nation. I made a conscious effort to drive through all the states and on as many state and federal highways as possible, choosing alternate routes any time I could. 3. My father was a nomadic sort and an optimistic dreamer. Often he would come home in the wee hours from his "swing" shift as a welder, miner, or other job and awaken us all, we had an hour or so to pack everything we could in the car and we were gone, moving to some other place he had heard about. Anything we couldn't stuff into the car was left behind. I thought this was a grand and adventurous way to live until I became a teenager and was more invested in people and activities than seeing what was over the next hill. 4. I was flogged by Alan Ladd's geese. My flamboyant father was both wealthy and penniless during my growing up years. For a short time, we lived next to Alan Ladd. He had geese in his yard. They supposedly ate weeds, but I now believe they were his security system. One day when Daddy and Mr. Ladd were talking and I was out in the expansive lawn. Although warned against it, I approached the geese who were not in a social mood. Without warning, the entire gaggle came at me running, honking and flapping. They scratched, pecked and flogged me bloody as the two men tried in vain to shoo them away. Eventually, the birds tired of this sport and gandered off in search of other prey. I have since had a deep respect for the power of geese. 5. I played the trombone. Notice the past tense. I now have teeth of plastic that will not stay put when I press a mouthpiece to my lips and try to elicit vibrations. I chose the trombone in Junior High. I was the only girl on that horn and I liked that idea for at that time of my life, I sincerely wanted to be a boy - a long story I'll save for another time. When I was 12, my band instructor asked if I would like to play in a college group, and I joined a women's brass ensemble from San Francisco State. It seems they did not have a trombone player. I was so thrilled. I have not one scintilla of talent, however, and the only reason for that and subsequent musical opportunities and/or honors was pure dogged determination. I love music and wanted to be musical, so I practiced hour after hour after hour until my loving family finally sent me to the garage to play. 6. I can only see with one eye at a time. My depth perception is "learned." By alternating (almost automatically now) from one eye to the other, my brain somehow calculates distance. And yes, I drive... quite well, I believe. I don't run into things. 7. Because of the way my brain was whacked, my ability to manage fatigue, hunger, thirst, body temperature, fluid levels and a host of autonomic things is totally screwed up. My sleep patterns aren't. When I get sleepy, I am going to fall asleep SOON, so must quickly find a safe pace to do that. When I get thirsty or hungry, I am almost immediately desperate for fluids or food. Also, my body doesn't notice heat or cold until they are already getting extreme, then I am in urgent need to reverse the situation. I am therefore a strange person to live with. I eat, sleep, drink, etc. at odd and unpredictable hours. I try to always have water or a soda with me. I have slept in all sorts of "unique" places. Often waking up confused about where I am and how I got there. This no longer frightens me, but it sometimes makes me late for things and is frustrating because I cannot control it. 8. I once dreamed of swimming the English Channel. In my Junior and Senior years of high school, we lived in Rodeo, California and I swam in the bay near Joseph's Marina almost every day. I was training, building up the endurance to make my big swim. I would grease down and be in the water for literally hours. I had a friend whose dad helped us train. The dad stayed in the boat, of course. I also snuck out at night to swim alone in the bay. Dumb!!! I never made the swim I trained for. I had no idea about how such things worked, no sponsor or even the understanding I needed one. 9. Because the King of Kings is my Lord and I trust Him to see me through any situation, there is little I am afraid of, but in spite of my absolute faith in my Savior, I am terrified of dentists and heights. We're talking puke in your lap fear of dentists, here. My dentists soon learned to give me a sedative to take an hour before coming in and then to quickly hook me up to nitrous oxide as soon as I arrived in the office no matter what I was there for. I spent no time in the waiting rooms because once I hurl on their nice carpet, they learn to respond to the depth of my terror right away. Heights make me queasy but I haven't offered my lunch to any of the precipices over which I've timidly peeked. As much as possible, I avoid looking down from high places, or even being in high places. 10. In all my life, I have never been bored. My life has been full of all sorts of good and not so good adventure and I have invited God to keep it that way. In answer to that prayer, He gave me the ability to have a wonderful time watching people, traffic, ants or other creatures. He taught me early on how to enjoy playing with my brain, making up puzzles to solve, reliving good memories, writing short stories in my head (daydreaming, I believe you call that) and simply relishing life. I find life extremely entertaining, not always fun, but always adventurous. I consider this one the best blessings God gave me besides salvation.

I received this and agree with it...

We have never been more desperate than now for God to heal our land.
This election is the scariest I remember in my lifetime.

1 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name shall
humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face and turn from their
wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin,
and will heal their land.

During WWII, there was an advisor to Churchill who organized a group
of people who dropped what they were doing every night at a prescribed
hour for one minute to collectively pray for the safety of England,
its people  and peace. This had an amazing effect as bombing stopped.
There is now a group of people organizing the same thing here in
America. The United States of America and our citizens need prayer
more than ever ! ! !

If you would like to participate: each evening at 9:00 PM Eastern Time
  (8:00 PM Central, 7:00 PM Mountain, 6:00 PM Pacific), stop whatever
you are doing and spend one minute praying for the safety of the
United States, our troops, our citizens, for peace in the world, the
up-coming election, that the Bible will remain the basis for the laws
governing our land and that Christianity will grow in the U.S.

Someone said if people really understood the full extent of the power
we have available through prayer, we might be speechless. Our prayers
are the most powerful asset we have.

My accident was only three days ago, and already they have brought us a check for the poor totaled car, and I am moving around some better... almost no limp now. Best of all, there was no head, neck or back injury. No one who saw the car can believe I am alive. 

Today, I am just sore and stiff and still a bit shaken up... but am enjoying every breath of life that Satan tried to snatch away from me. The Lord said, "Thus far, and no farther." He has given me that wonderful assurance so many times in my life! I'll try to get a blog up this evening about it all.

Right now, I am uploading music to my computer. Sort of a lazy, no-brainer activity I can do with ease today.

We are rethinking a lot of things, like why do I work so hard and think everything has to be perfect... and do we want the same kind of car or should we get a Corvette? Or a Jag? (he he) Life is short... I am in the moment and it was so close to the last moment. I am just thinking of many things. Cars are the least of them. Mostly I am thinking of Jesus!

The Olympics were wonderful and well covered by the media, however, few even know about the Paralympics (World Olympic Games for the disabled). The US is the only participating nation with no TV coverage of these games now ongoing in Bejing. It's a big deal. Over 4,000 athletes competing with all the features of the "regular" Olymics.

My tribute to their sacrifice.  PLEASE FORGIVE if you got this twice... You may be on 2 lists.

The Chill of Grief
I remember where I was when footage of the World Trade Center attack was broadcast live. Richard and I had taken a mini-holiday and were at the hotel desk. There was a TV monitor above us. I didn't immediately realize what I was seeing. I thought is was a movie. I don't hear well and had not heard the commentary when Richard tuned to me, shocked that I was so placid because I would normally react openly to such an awful sight. It took a moment for the horror to sink in, then came the adrenalin rush, not from fear, but from extreme shock and the heat of anger... then came the chill of grief.

Now, seven years out, I am still overwhelmed by that assault on our nation, on freedom everywhere. For indeed, that was an attack on freedom, pure and simple. It was born of evil and the seeds were sown by evil ones to the gullible suicide pilots all wrapped up in packages of religious fervor. Our nation has changed since 9/11/2001, and we have come to honor more highly those who serve and protect us in law enforcement, firefighting, true public service AND military service.

Note this from the BBC: "US troops in Iraq held their own ceremonies to mark the day. The 9/11 attacks sparked the Bush administration's 'war on terror', and are regarded as the defining moment of Mr Bush's time in office." Also, "Seven years on, more than 30,000 US soldiers remain stationed in Afghanistan. The hunt for Osama Bin Laden, who the US believes masterminded the attacks, continues."

We have are proud to have 4 daughters and a granddaughter in the military. Our daughter Stephanie is one of those thousands stationed in Afghanistan.

In all our outrage, and we are still outraged, we must beware, however, lest we become self-righteous and think we are justified in doing things equally outrageous, like imprisonment without due process, torture, illegal wiretapping, etc. We cannot allow ourselves to become stereotypical bigots.

Conversely, we must be diligent and dogged in our pursuit, prosecution and punishment of anyone who would dare threaten our nation and our freedom, be it individual or nation. That is one of the primary roles of government, although it seems to have been buried in an out of control expansion of governmental meddling and spending.

A wise president once said, "Speak softly and carry a big stick." Do you remember him? Our federal government has gone mad with governing and attempting to micromanage every aspect of life in this country and now some want to disable our military so as to waste even more money on bureaucracy. Maybe they feel we can "Speak loudly and carry no stick."

But before I get off on that, lets thank God for the freedom we have. I would not want to live anywhere else.

Please pause a moment right now and say a prayer for those whose lives were forever changed by the great tragedy of 9/11/2001. Pray, too for all those who serve and protect us. Below is a neat site where you can light a candle (there's nothing magical about it, just a tribute and a reminder), you can leave a brief message... It's a nice place to spend a few moments honoring God and all those who have given so much to America... and still do.

I'm sorry to barge in on your day, however our nation is in a dire financial and political crisis and in more need of our prayers than most of us imagine.

There is great power in prayer and America needs the hand of God as a guide and a covering of protection. Please join me in daily prayer for our great nation, under God... and for guidance during these dark financial times and as we prepare to elect another president and a host of other public servants. 

Pray now and keep praying. Become involved in the affairs of our land. Become a well informed, well "prayed up" voter.

Increasingly as election day approaches I receive messages based on fear. These are from Christians and are sounding more urgent by the day. Agreed, we have a responsibility to vote after careful and prayerful consideration of all the candidates and issues, and we need to take that very seriously, but not necessarily fearfully.

I also doubt a believer in good conscience could vote for Obama if for no other reason than his stand on abortion, but should he be elected, I will not cringe in fear.

For while scripture calls us to fear the Lord, as in a holy awe, we are repeatedly told by angels and Christ Himself to "Fear not!" Why? Because God is still in control!

Tomorrow is Veteran's Day, and no matter how we respond to recent election results, we have the RIGHT TO VOTE! From the onset of this country, our military men and women with the grace of God, paid a great price to preserve that freedom and all others we now enjoy.

I have made a tribute page at http://ionanet.com/press/cards/vet.htm to honor them and the Lord. The "models" for my art are hopefully familiar to you from other pieces. 

Please pray for our our troops and Veterans and support Vet assistance groups like PVA and some newly formed Traumatic Brain Injury support groups for Vets.

Richard and all his brothers are Veterans, as is my only brother. Six of our children and two grandchildren are Veterans. Including our children, their spouses and their children, We have nine on active duty right now. One daughter is in Afghanistan and a grandson-in-law is in Iraq. The others are stateside just now.

Let us pay tribute to all our Vets, on active duty, or no longer in the service, and hold them up in prayer.

There is a huge rock near a gravel pit on Hwy. 25 in rural   Iowa. For generations, kids have painted slogans, names, and obscenities on this rock, changing its character many times. A few months back, the rock received its latest paint job, and since then it has been left completely undisturbed.

It's quite an impressive sight. Be sure to scroll down and check out the multiple photos.(all angles) of the rock.

I thought the flag was draped over the rock, but it's not. It's actually painted on the rock too.

This is about 70 miles from Amarillo outside of town called Groom, TX . I had only seen the giant Cross that is in the center. It has now grown to these other statues. This is so NEAT .
