If you must speed on the highway, sing these:
AS RELATIONS GET WORSE BETWEEN CHINA AND TAIWAN,
ASSIST MINISTRIES HAS ISSUED AN URGENT CALL FOR CHRISTIAN PEN PALS TO
BECOME INVOLVED IN "FRIENDSHIP EVANGELISM" WITH TAIWAN
"Bridge of Friendship -- Taiwan" Now Launched By ASSIST Ministries
GARDEN GROVE, CA (August 31, 1999) -- As relations between China and
Taiwan, continue to hot up, ASSIST Ministries has issued an urgent
appeal for North American Christians to become involved in a "friendship
evangelism" project with new friends in Taiwan, an island in East Asia
which is the seat of government of the Republic of China.
Dan Wooding, founder and president of ASSIST Ministries based in Garden
Grove, California, says, "Relations between China and Taiwan are so
sensitive at this time, that we believe that now is the time for
Christians in America, to share the show the love of Christ with the
Taiwanse people. The need is pressing, especially as we have now heard
from many people in Taiwan, mostly students, who would love to have a
friend in North America. Most of them are studying English as a second
language."
Wooding, whose ministry has been running pen pal programs for seven
years with people all over the former Soviet Union and also Romania, now
believes is the time for Asia.
"LOVE TUCKED INSIDE AN ENVELOPE"
"We call the aim of this project 'Love Tucked Inside An Envelope,'"
said Wooding, the author of some 38 books. "This is a wonderful
opportunity for North American Christians from all ethnic backgrounds,
to become missionaries to Asia without leaving home. The idea of this
new pen pal program is to establish a friendship with someone from
Taiwan who reads and speaks English and, as part of that relationship,
be able to share their faith with them and also learn about their life
and beliefs."
Taiwan has 12 officially recognized religions, including Buddhism,
Taoism, Roman Catholicism, Protestantism, and Islam. Slightly more than
half the people in Taiwan profess a faith; Buddhism has the most
adherents, followed by Taoism.
Most people in Taiwan are ethnic Han Chinese and were born on the
mainland or have ancestors that were. They are divided into three groups
based on their native Chinese dialect: Taiwanese (who speak Taiwanese,
also called Min), Hakka (who speak Hakka, also called Kejia), and
Mandarin. Min, Hakka, and Mandarin all belong to the Sino-Tibetan
languages family.
"I truly believe that there are many Christians in North America who
would love to have the opportunity to help make a difference in the life
of a new friend in Taiwan," said Dan Wooding. "Now is the time to act!"
For those who would like to be involved in writing to someone in Taiwan
through "The Bridge of Friendship -- Taiwan," and would like to receive
a packet of information, they should write to: ASSIST, PO Box 2126,
Garden Grove, CA 92842-2126 or call the ASSIST office at (714) 530
6598. There is a small donation requested for the linking that will
help cover the costs of administering the program.
Blessings upon you!

It's still pretty hot here in Alabama, but Fall is in the air. That
means labor Day is almost here sooo...
Happy labor Day!
I just wanted to let you know that someone appreciates all the work
you do. Job titles mean little, whether at home or in the "workplace,"
it's the heart that counts. Thanks for having a lot of heart!
Also, the September issue of Handmaidens
is online now. Just go to
http://ionanet.com/women and click on the September link.
It's one of our best yet issues... There's an excellent page on preventing
school violence, a hilarious Comedy spoof about a new Microsoft product,
a page for and about cancer victims and much more! Sure hope you
enjoy.
Now friends, I pass this along from ChubCheekr@...
When you receive this, say a prayer. That's all you have to do.
Prayer is one of the best free gifts we receive. There is no cost but
a lot of rewards. Let's continue praying for one another.
May today there be peace within.
May you trust your highest power that you are exactly where you are
meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received,
And pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God.
Let His presence settle into our bones,
And allow your soul the freedom to sing,
dance, and to bask in the sun.
It is there for each and every one of you.
WE'RE TAKING OFF THE ADS
We will be removing most of the banner ads from the ionanet site. This
will take some time, but eventually you will only see ads for Amazon.com,
Christian sites and the carefully screened businesses actually hosted by
ionanet. We will pray that God will continue to provide for our web space
and bandwidth costs through the generaous and unsolicited gifts of visitors,
patrons and clients.

PARADOX OF OUR TIMES
We have taller buildings, but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but
narrower viewpoints; we spend more, but have less; we buy more, but
enjoy it less.
We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences, but
less time; we have more degrees, but less common sense; more knowledge,
but less judgment; more experts, but more problems; more medicine,
but less wellness.
We spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too
angry too quickly, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too seldom,
watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values.
We talk too much, love too seldom and lie too often.
We've learned how to make a living, but not a life; we've added years
to life, not life to years.
We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble
crossing the street to meet the new neighbor.
We've conquered outer space, but not inner space; we've done larger
things, but not better things; we've cleaned up the air, but polluted
the soul; we've split the atom, but not our prejudice; we write more,
but learn less; plan more, but accomplish less.
We've learned to rush, but not to wait; we have higher incomes; but
lower morals; more food but less appeasement; more acquaintances, but
fewer friends; more effort but less success.
We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more
copies than ever, but have less communication; we've become long on
quantity, but short on quality.
These are the time of fast foods and slow digestion; tall men and
short character; steep profits, and shallow relationships.
These are the times of world peace, but domestic warfare; more
leisure and less fun; more kinds of food, but less nutrition. These
are days of two incomes, but more divorce; of fancier houses, but
broken homes.
These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality,
one-night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything
from cheer, to quiet, to kill.
It is a time when there is much in the show window, and nothing in
the stockroom.
Indeed it's all true. Think about it...read it again.

MAILING LISTS:
I've been having quite a time with mailing lists of late. For a while,
I couldn't get into e-groups lists to moderate them. They didn't recognize
my cookies since I had worked on my Mac and I couldn't go in with cookies
turned off. (don't worry if you don't know what I'm talking about, you're
probably better off)
Anyway, I got so frustrated, I decided to create the mailing lists on
my own server. But now I discover that maintaining them is terribly time
consuming... plus now e-groups and my computer are back on speaking terms,
so I'll keep the e-groups lists.
You need do nothing if you are on the e-groups list, however if you
just signed up for the ionanetnews list, you'll need to return to ionanet
at http://ionanet.com and sign up for the e-groups list. Please forgive
the inconvenience. We are growing at a mind breaking pace and there are
always a few growing pains when that happens.
We have moved to a new server. The move may have caused some changes
that are being fixed as quickly as possible, but we feel you will have
better service in the long run.

Missing Child!
The 14-year old girl (Sonja Gilbert) we're raising ran away sometime
after 11:00p.m. 1/13/99. We last saw her then, in her night clothes as
she went into the bathroom. At 1:30 this morning, her best friend's
parents came to our home looking for their daughter, that's when we
discovered Sonja was also missing.
We are frantic. We reported her missing but don't feel that law
enforcement is aggressive enough in following any leads...
Please pray and pray and pray! Thank you!
Sonja is 5'7"

Hello, Friends;
We had a wonderful holiday and are looking forward to a new year filled
with God's best blessings - which includes you!
1999! Here's our NEW YEARS wish for you... A little late since we've
been gone, but it's still lots of fun and a blessing, I hope...
http://ionanet.com/press/cards/newyear.htm
WE HEAR YOU! Some of our pages load so slowly, you think your modem has
died, so we're cleaning them up, trimming them down and upgrading
content and style. Since we have hundreds of pages, it'll take a while,
but that's where the focus will be.
You can see the results of our first efforts in the completely revised
Handmaidens. New contributors wrote great articles for this month's
issue which deals with the Lord's gift of time and how we receive and
use it.

NEW SITE: Here's the latest site on the ionanet server.
http://ionanet.com/churchforchrist/
This site was done without charge as part of our Christian outreach.
Please give us a critique. Your feedback helps us build better sites.
ADVERTISING: The need for finances to support hosting and bandwidth
costs has concerned us. We don't like to clutter our pages and dilute
the message and content with a bunch of ads. You'll see fewer ads and
hopefully none at all except in the Business District.
Here's the plan: We will be filing as a non-profit corporation and
accepting contributions from those led by the Holy Spirit to support our
internet ministry. Some of you have already supported us, but the gifts
were not tax deductible. That will soon change. We will not solicit
funds but will thankfully accept them so that we can continue to use the
internet to serve Christ and our visitors.
FOR PROFIT: There will still be a for profit aspect to ionanet offering
web design and hosting services to those who don't qualify for our free
services. To date, there has been no profit, however, we hope that
changes some day... ;-)
DOWN TIME: Several times during 1998, I had to be away from my computer
and page maintenance and other work was delayed, sometimes for several
weeks. One of the goals for this year is to acquire a portable computer
(MAC) so I can keep up when away from home base. Please pray with me
that God will provide the needed funding.
THANKS! We had over 350,000 hits in 1998, our first year in cyberspace!
You made it happen and we're so very grateful! We hope we can serve you
even better in 1999.

Greetings!
Wow! Can it really be December already? I'm still living in October!!
There are always a myriad of things to do when this time of year rolls

It's so easy to get lost in all the commercialism surrounding this

blessings and find ways to share them with others.

As many of you know, I was in California for a time with my niece who

struggle against this disease, I will be putting up a site about
Leukemia. If you know of links, information or people which may benefit
this site and its visitors, please send them to leukemia@...

Also, I have been in the hospital with spinal meningitis so the work

content up within a few days... really!

Hello dear ones;
I am home from St. Anthony's Hosp. in Denver. I am recovering from viral
meningitis, the less dangerous form, but very debilitating and painful.
M.D.s say I'm not yet "cured" but the only treatment is symptomatic,
anyway, so I am on some pretty potent pain killers.
Thank you all dear ones for your prayers and support. Funny, I was
working on two very important projects when the illness set in, one is a
site for TheKingsDaughter Devotionals, the other was an article for the
Christian Women's Webzine (now called Handmaidens) about how Satan
attacks when we are busy working for the Lord. Food for thought...
I will be getting to the 500+ e-mails and work as soon as I am able.
Please be patient...
Thanks for your prayers, love and support. Please keep praying that I
can be well and get these important things done.

Hi, everyone;
I'm back from Calif. Thanks for all your prayers. Donna survived her
transplant but will need your continued prayer support for quite some
time as infection and rejection are very real dangers. Also, hold her up
in prayer to keep her spiritually and emotionally comforted - this is a
horrible ordeal she's enduring. What would we do without you all!!?
Thanks, too, for all the wonderful e-mails! You made a difficult time so
much better for me. Please forgive me for not writing each of you
personally, but there were sooo many!! I am far behind in my web work
(the only kind I seem to do these days!) so beg your forgiveness... I do
really care for each of you and the good wishes you sent will remain a
blessing for me.
The Women's Webzine for November should be up by tomorrow evening, and
other sections are being worked on as well. Please visit ionanet's home
page for new content.
A request: I am starting a new section called "Jesus." In it I will
place pictures of Christ, writings about Him, etc. Please contribute.
This would be a great place to share your testimony.
I will also be putting up a free graphics and web resources section. If
you have something you'd like to share, please send it.
Well, time to get back to work... Sure enjoyed e-talking with you.
In Christ,
iona

Thank you for all your prayers and good wishes. Donna had her transplant
today and seems to be doing well. Her donor (sister) Debbie is sore but
recovering nicely. It was a good day all around.
I'll be heading back to Colorado tomorrow if Donna continues to do well.
Again, thanks for your prayers!! I'll be in touch again when I am back
in my office.

Hello everyone;
California sunshine is wonderful but I have seen little of it. I am here
to be with Donna my niece who will have a bone marrow transplant
tomorrow.
In case you may not already know, Donna has leukemia, the AML type, very
dangerous and very devastating! Tomorrow will be a high risk day for
her, so please pray! Your prayers are the most effective "treatments"
and can avail much.
I hope you will pray, not only for her physical healing but for a spirit
of peace for her as she faces such a long and arduous course of
treatment providing, of course, she survives the transplant!
I'll send out an update tomorrow night. Meanwhile, thanks so much for
your good wishes and prayers and patience (I'm not getting a lot of work
done just now!)
