I suggest you review the XMP specifications at:
www.adobe.com/xmp

and also look at the beta libraries at:
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/xmptoolkit/

In general XMP maps the EXIF information (see EXIF namespace in XMP),
however their are certain EXIF properties and values that are camera
maker specific.
