I’ve been trying to use Jack OS X in conjunction with QuickTime Player’s
screen recording facility, to make a video of an app including the app’s
audio output. (Ideally I’d actually like to mix the app’s audio with the
mic input, so I can include a real-time commentary, as you see in many
screencasts.)
Anyway I’ve been so far failing even to route the app’s audio output to
QuickTime Player, though it comes frustratingly close.
1. If I run jackdmp and then open QuickTime Player and select “New Screen
Recording”, I can choose JackRouter as the ‘Microphone’ input. So far so
good! Then jack_lsp shows QuickTime Player:in1 and QuickTime Player:in2
ports, which is also good.
2. Now I set the system’s sound output device to JackRouter, and open the
app I want to record. I run jack_lsp and myapp:out1 and myapp:out2 show in
the port listing (good!) but the QuickTime Player:in1 and QuickTime
Player:in2 ports have disappeared from the list (bad!).
It’s very frustrating! It seems that setting the system audio output to
JackRouter somehow prevents the QuickTime Player:in ports from showing.
Is there anything I can do about this? I’m using jackdmp 1.9.7.1 (64 bit)
on OS X 10.7.2.
Thanks,
Robin
