I'd like to propose that Rome use FeedParser's networking API and
autodiscovery functionality.
First off I think it would bring a lot to Rome in that it currently
doesn't provide support in this area. The APIs are very stable and
isolated and have no other requirements for libraries besides what's in
the core of java. I think that aside from the XmlReader within Rome
that it would simple integrate right off the bat. Rome could just
bundle FeedParser and then link to our Javadoc.
Second I think it would be good for java-syndication as a whole
considering that these are just two less APIs that developers have to
use and learn. They could use Rome or FeedParser and not have to do
anything different. It would also establish a working relationship
between the FeedParser and Rome projects as we move forward and would be
a good foundation for any future plans.
Third it would be good for FeedParser since we'd have more people using
the APIs and we'd be able to solicit feedback and get patches. It would
also help to stabilize the community and help us within Apache as we
move out of the sandbox. It turns out we have to move from the sandbox
before I can do a release. (ug)
Thoughts?
