Engineering Manager/Director (depending upon experience)

Job Description:
Managing multiple groups of software developers to further develop world
class wireless-messaging software.

Overall responsibility for high quality, on -time, and on-budget delivery of
all Visto products developed in Redwood Shores Headquarters. Responsible for
the evolution and enforcement of software development processes.
Oversee the management of multiple teams, including QA, VES/VMAP, and Device
Development. Writing performance reviews and recommending training to
improve performance. Work closely across coordinating functional areas to
ensure alignment between software and market expectations. Ensure all
Visto's products fulfill functional deliverables. Some hands on engineering
responsibilities are required, i.e. design specifications and design
reviews, project management, and development.

Manage ongoing development, defining schedules to ensure timely
deliverables. Maintain a high level of interaction between home and remote
offices, including external contract development teams and vendors. Initiate
frequent and continuous communications between groups while simultaneously
managing multiple projects. Act as the point of contact between engineering
and other functional areas, in particular, maintaining a high degree of
interaction and collaboration with Visto's Operations Team. Oversee and
manage technical and project management relationships with partner
companies, interacting directly with Product Management.

Required Experience:
Minimum 5-10 years experience as a manager/director of 15 or more people,
including managing multiple teams, i.e. QA, Client, Web, Release, etc.
Experience managing software development teams through the full product
lifecycle within an object oriented software development environment
Management experience for a High Technology Start Up Organization
History of successfully managing multi-site development and 'outsourced' -
off shore software development is a key asset
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects concurrently.
Proven track record for taking products to market on time and on budget.
Demonstrated ability to set goals, priorities and direction.
Experience with high-availability server software development.
Strong leadership and communications skills, written and verbal
Object Oriented Software Development background is a must
Education: BSCS/MSCS, or related technical degree(s)
Experience with TCP/IP, HTTP, POP3;

Prefferred Technology Background:

Familiar with: MS SQL, Oracle, or other RDBMS
Experience with wireless messaging applications, MIME, and RFC 82 2
Experience developing wireless software is desirable
Experience with syncML or other XML protocols
Experience with any wireless messaging platform: i.e. Pocket PC, Palm,
Symbian, etc.

Pluses:
Previous position as Software manager within wireless messaging industry
Experience with Java for wireless technologies is desirable MIDP, J2ME
Experience working with new/emerging product markets is a plus
