Ravi, all the guys in the list are now no longer staying in Jabalpur,
except
I guess, Pushpendra and 1 more guy. So, there is a need to involve more
people here.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
**Thats the reason i believe there is less involvement in it. We
**should create a community where new members can take charge as old
**faces move out and the community keeps evolving rather than dying.
**For this we can make a common binding guideline for this group to
**grow and evolve and maintain it outside the current yahoo group if
**that is feasible.

We can have it under Creative Commons instead?
Since GIMP is available for FreeBSD also, Pushpendra can join in ... :-)

Maybe Pushpendra can join in more actively given his interest and
enthusiasm. :-)

I had shared some of these inputs published in LFY last year, and I
re-share
them here:
1.It is observed that LUG is mostly confined to students and mentors
discussing basic things about Linux Installation, the ideas of
FOSS,etc. and
the loop sticks till the students pass out for jobs or mentors stop being
active. There should be a system wherein, the members continue their
participation, even once they are no longer students and give back
their bit
to the community and help create innovators and not just Linux Users.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
**The innovators part can only be done by programmers. Rest of the
**people may help in documentation or similar stuffs which an average
**person can do or implementing available solutions.
**I am not an innovator but I have been using Linux only on my
**personal computer since I bought my own computer 2 years back
**(Compaq Presario V2000 working with Wi-fi on Linksys WRT54G router
**on Debian 4 etch updated to latest including volatile.debian.org).
**Because I do not believe in piracy :-) .Never done a dual boot
**with windows since i bought it with free DOS. That is my way of
**giving respect to the Linux OS and community which they rightly
**deserve..
---------------------------------------------------------------------
2.The revival measures have a set of issues. e.g. as prashant had
suggested
before, of merging the two groups, however, there was no response as there
is nobody left around to respond, so what do we merge? There are 2 LUGs in
Indore, the older one having senior professionals and is very low
activity,
like ours, the other being new and confined to students re-inventing the
wheel with loads of messages. There is a need to remove this gap of
continuity as senior members prefer to discuss "the issues relating to
OpenXML standards" while youngsters prefer something like "figuring
out how
to configure".
---------------------------------------------------------------------
**Yes if we define that this group is for initial members only and the
**mature can move to relevant groups that should be fine and harms in
**no way. That is the way things work... different lists for different
**interests..
---------------------------------------------------------------------
3. I suggest to have the website of LUG developed, starting with LOGO and
other stuff. If any required support like Linux Hosting, etc. is
required, I
am willing to arrange the same, however, I will appreciate if other
members
coordinate with the development and get it into shape.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
**No harm in contributing but people at ground zero actually matter to
**keep this group alive and kicking and hence a need to re-align it
**meaningfully..
---------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Also, to re-start with, *I request all existing members to re-introduce
themselves please* mentioning their present areas of expertise and how
they
can participate. For e.g. someone with expertise in SysAdmin can volunteer
to post about latest trends on SysAdmin.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
**Good idea if we have a conference call on Skype ? Posting work
**details is not a good idea because i represent myself and not my
**company:-) I can share my experiences on Linux in enterprise or
**banking environment in general separately.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Another idea is to put up posters/notices in colleges which I used
to do
when I was there.
Its good to see the group getting back to life and these are my 2pence to
the same.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
**Money should not be a problem now. We can definitely share it to a
**reasonable expense to bring things to life...
**Maybe we should arrange kind of Linux boot camps to keep people
**engaged.Especially people in schools colleges who are the future.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Girish
