Very true. FOSS is now like every where.
With open source events You
a. make friends
b. come to know the latest trends/technology in the market.
c. can market your skills.
d. get free t-shirts/Goodies/CDs etc...
Few of the events are listed here.

I have been to Gnuify(http://www.gnunify.in/) twice Once as an
audience and once as a speaker. Ofcourse the experience was different
:) . Its a worth attending event . There are both technical and non
technical discussions. There is some thing for every one, from
beginners to experts.
The next big event is coming in this November, FOSS.IN/2008(http://foss.in/).
I will be attending it this time.
You can only realize the benefits of such events when you attend one of them.
Hope to meet you in one such event.
Cheers.
