lynx is a text rendering web site thus it parses no html that does
graphical markup except to get the text related to the images. it
doesn't do frames but to break out the links. there is no way to get
jfw to reformat the page but if you are using jfw 3.3, lots is done for
you.

Hi Lisa. If you don't like having to reformat the screen, then you really
should look into upgrading to JFW 3.31. JFW 3.31 uses Microsoft Active
Accessibility to present you with what feels like a reformatted version of
the page regardless of what is being displayed on screen. All of the links
are labeled as links automatically, and you can walk through the entire
document with your cursor keys. There is also enhanced support for filling
out web-based forms in this version. Furthermore, you can do a lot with the
links list including re-ordering links in alphabetical order or filtering
out links you've already visited.
As for Lynx automatically reformatting the page. I believe a more accurate
way of looking at Lynx's display would be to say that Lynx simply ignores
much of the formatting information that is put into a document to make it
look pretty for sighted users. At any rate, I think you would be very
pleased to see what Henter-Joyce have done in version 3.31 of JFW.
Cheers,
Jerry
Lisa,
If you are using JFW 3.31 with IE 5, this automatic reformatting is
accomplished through the aid of a virtual cursor. I use this setup at home,
and I have never enjoyed using the Internet as much as I do now.
Unfortunately, to my knowledge, there is no automatic reformatting feature
available for any version of IE prior to IE 5.

Okay, I'll get things started...
I have encountered the almost constant need to reformat the screen using
Insert-F5 while surfing the net with JFW.
A friend of mine uses "Links" and when we have compared the identical web
sites, Links automatically reformats the screen for him. Is there some
setting or command I am missing in JFW where I could have JFW automatically
reformat when it is necessary?
Thanks! -Lisa

Hi all,
First and most importantly, welcome to all who have subscribed thus
far. Thanks. I am quite confident that you will find this a useful
resource in your use and/or implementation of JFW in the workplace.
Please feel free to start any discussion related to the topic of the
list. Involvement is the key to getting a good thing off the ground. I'm
getting things started, so it is now your turns to help me take it to the
next level.
Please also check out the new Proactive Accessibility web site at
http://www.proactive-access.com. Please feel free to give me any
feedback and any information useful in this new site. It will grow only
through active participation in the various projects. Most relevant here,
of course, is the Proactive Employment Project and the Screen Reader
Configuration Sharing Project. Please participate in these projects.
Thank you for your time.
Regards and happy holidays.
AT Kratter and Company in Garden Grove, California, is using JAWS with
Dragon through JAWBone. I've seen it work, and it's really neat.
It requires a fast (at least 300MHz) machine and 128MB RAM memory.
But it works!

Hi Donna,
Believe me, I understand. Go ahead and give them a try, knowing and
understanding that they are betas. They are just scripts, so
they will not "time out" or do anything else of that sort.
Regards.

Hi,
Check out the JFW beta script area of H-J's web site. That page includes links
to scripts for Dragon NaturallySpeaking versions 2,
3 and 3.52.
The URL is http://www.hj.com/JFW/Scripts/JFWBetaScripts.html.
Hope this helps.
Regards and happy Thanksgiving.

called fast edie
it may be fast edit but I'm pretty sure that it is fast edie, does everyone
already know about this or shall I ask him for some more details to post here?
he uses it with jaws, pretty effectively. its not perfect but so little is.

Hi,
The Cool Edit accessibility issue was brought up in reference to its use
in broadcasting and other employment situations, and the thread is meant
to come up with ideas to improve the program's accessibility with JFW, so,
therefore, it is on topic for this list. If a little discussion of how
Cool Edit is being designed to work better with Window-Eyes ends up
improving the program's accessibility with JFW, then it is no big deal. I
will watch this very closely, however. This is not a Window-Eyes list...
While I am not a Cool Edit user, and my job has nothing to do with the use
of that program, it apparently does to at least a few subscribers on this
list, so there is no problem with its coverage. I am still waiting on the
specifics of this program's accessibility flaws. We need to be much more
specific when approaching companies with these kinds of accessibility
concerns.
Regards.

I believe though of the several message I have read all have the same

Hi,
I believe that an even more effective approach would be for those who have tried
to use Cool Edit to share their experiences, so
that H-J and the JFW user community could ascertain the accessibility of Cool
Edit before dialog begins with Syntrillium. That
would provide Syntrillium with the specifics needed to do a better job at
improving accessibility.
Regards.

Hi,
Do you know what changes Syntrillium is making to improve the program's
accessibility with Window-Eyes? It is quite probable
that those changes, along with some possible JFW scripting, could bring the same
level of accessibility of Cool Edit to JFW.

The idea would be for HJ to ascertain just how accessible it is right now,
or
how much it isn't. They can get the software from Syntrillium, or provide
Syntrillium with JFW.
www.support-@....
The problem has been described to Syntrillium in detail, and they have
begun working
with GW Micro. If I were HJ, I'd work with this obliging company, too.
I can't give you specifics, as I have yet to use this software.
I believe it must have to do with not following strict Windows
conventions.
--Daveed--
Hi,
Since I am not a Cool Edit user, I am not directly involved here, but I do have
one question that should probably have a complex,
but specific answer.
What is it about Cool Edit that makes it inaccessible? Does it lack keyboard
shortcuts or does it lack a standard Windows user
interface? What functions of the program can be used easily? Which ones can be
use with some tricky manipulations of JFW?
And, finally, which functions seem to be completely inaccessible?
When this more specific information is compiled and sent both to Syntrillium
Software and Henter-Joyce, more action might possibly
be more forthcomming. It is one thing just to ask for improved accessibility,
and quite another to provide specifics.
Regards.

Making cool edit accessible to window eyes depending on how it is done
would make it accessible or at least bitable for jfw as well. My
suggestion is that it be done following windows standard api
guidelines.

A number of blind people have asked Syntrillium Software, the makers of
Cool Edit Pro, to make it work more smoothly with Window-Eyes. However,
I'd like to
see it work more effectively, too, with JFW. I have written to HJ about
this, with
nary a response. Cool Edit Pro is used by many broadcasters and music
studios, and I
would urge HJ to get on the stick and work with Syntrillium. The latter
must not get
the idea that there is only one screen reader for blind comp[uter users.
I do hope some action is taken soon by HJ on this matter.
