This list, primarily intended for JLD members, is open to everyone interested in J<>E translation/interpretation and is intended primarily but not exclusively for the dissemination of information related to the JLD.

NO MESSAGE MAY CONTAIN ANY INFORMATION ABOUT RATES OR PAYMENT ISSUES. Examples of unacceptable content are:

"I asked for $0.?? per word from ABC Corp. but was talked down to $0.??. Is this a fair rate?"

AND

"XYZ Services has not paid me for work I did last year. Has anyone else had problems with them?"

Such discussion is prohibited (per written ATA policy) to insulate the ATA and JLD from legal and other problems.

The J<>E translation/interpretation community is fortunate to have access to several other mailing lists that address a wider range of topics.

Two payment practices lists are available. The Payment Practices (PP) list is free. (See http://www.trwenterprises.com/payment_practices.htm.) The Translator Client Review (TCR) list charges a $12.00 annual subscription fee. (See http://tcrlist.com.)

The Honyaku mailing list is the most active J<>E translators list with almost 2,000 members. (See http://www.crossroads.net/honyaku/index.php.)

The Japan-based Japan Association of Translators runs an active list for translation-related messages. JAT membership is required. (See http://www.jat.org.)

Neither the JLD nor the ATA is in any way affiliated with any of these lists or organizations.

List members who post prohibited messages will generally be warned for the first offense, have posting privileges suspended for at least 3 days for the second offense, and be permanently removed from the list for any subsequent violation. (Serious offenses may result in immediate termination of privileges.)

Derogatory comments and personal attacks are also not permitted.
