Thank you. I hope I can contribute to the group in a meaninful way.

I made an educated guess last night (assuming you were the "Rob" in question)
and sent you an email via your web site regarding the EEPROM and a few other
questions I had. Reply when you can. I know you're probably very busy.

I may be interested in one ONLY if it's a B03 version. Removing the
battery cover, just to the right side of the JP-1 access hole it
would have "B03" heat stamped.

I'd have to say the URC-8810w ($19.64 @ Wal-Mart). It's 8 devices, JP1 out of
the
box, can use John's best extender, and I think has the most available buttons of
any
current remote.

The current favorites seem to the RS 15-2116 and the OFA URC-8811,
although if you are a PVR user, the modified (JP1 enabled) OFA
URC-6131 is a strong contender.

(I'm cross posting this here because even though Rob's other forum is

I have a 15-1994, which I first programmed with IR over 2 years ago
now. This is one of the best remotes ever made.

Wondering if anyone could tell me which current JP1 remotes are even
better? (Not interested in Kameleon -- stick w/ hardbuttons.)

LCD is optional, as is RF extension capability, though they're both a
plus.

Expandability/flexibility is probably the highest priority. My key-
move/macro RAM has always been quite full.

And, of course, the number of buttons with useful labels. I hate
having to memorize buttons that don't do what they say -- it's almost
as bad as trying to teach them to my wife!

I'd be interested to know what everyone recommends.

smithjo601 - I am struggling with my 2116 extender, ToadTogs, etc.
and want to follow your steps carefully because your functionality is
exactly what I want for my system (although in my case my DVD and CBL
box are TOAD devices, while everything else is DUDE. But when I
tried to load your IR dump file into IR, I got several error messages
and the result is nothing but "ERROR" where all the device codes
should be listed on the setup page. Do I need to do something else
to load this particular file?

A quick look indicates that that is the only change you made. I just want to

If they are all the same, at least post the URC model number found on
the back. You could also post a pix temporarily in the photo's
section with a title like: remote for sale by tzapoluch. If the
remote's pix is available at the OFA cable remote site, just indicate
which one of the 8 it is(ie 3rd in top row).

Even though there were alot of people asking for a web based forum to
replace the Yahoo spam forums, the movement over to the new forum has been
slow.

So, my question is, is this what you really want? I don't intend to keep
both sites active for messages as I don't want to have to check for them in
two places, so it's an "either or" situation.

I've posted a poll for this in the new General forum, please vote for your
preference there.

There are several different remotes made for the cable market and we are
quite familiar with most of them, so it would be helpful if you posted
exactly which remote (or remotes) you are selling.

On the battery compartment cover, there is probably a label like
URC-44XXXB02, you should quote that. Also, is your remote one of the 8
shown here: http://www.hifi-remote.com/urc/ If so, which one is it.

Thanks,
Rob

I concur with John (and he beat me to the response). After deleting the VCR/0618
upgrade and repasting it from KM, everything appears correct.

Try these steps yourself and let us know if it fixes things.

I looked at them and I can't guess how you reached that state with the
IR file. Maybe you can tell us. (and what version of IR.EXE are you
using?)

That's easy to understand. The prompt was because no device position
on the general tab was set to be VCR/0618. Once one was set that way,
it wouldn't prompt you again.

> These keymoves do look

What do you mean by that? And in what form were you looking at the
KeyMoves when you observed that.

When I open your IR file, I see one wrong fragment of a KeyMove. If I
delete the device upgrade and repaste the device upgrade from KM, I
get correct looking KeyMoves.

I have posted both files as you requested. To answer your
question, yes, IR did prompt me to bind the keymoves to a device
when I was pasting in the upgrade code and protocol code. I tried
deleting the device upgrade completely and starting over to get the
prompt again, but it did not prompt me again. I think your question
regarding this may be on to something. These keymoves do look
strange becasue they appear to be bound to themselves.

In the end I will be embarrased with how simple the fix will be.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the earlier advice Rob.

I built an upgrade for the Leadtek remote for PC tv cards, and posted
it in the misc section in the files area. I gave it a 1400 setup
code, which is related to the 400 cable setup code that used the same
nec1, device 3 protocol. The tv card handles video recording and
playback functions as well.

Alot of newbies take that sort of approach at first but quickly you will
come to realise that even if there is a built in code, it will probably need
some keymoves to fix it up, so you might as well learn how to build upgrades
from the start.

Most of the regulars here have built upgrades to replace all of their built
in codes for just that reason.

Kent

I took what you have on your site and created an updated RDF, Image and Map. I
uploaded them in a zip file for you in the main jp1 group files/RDF's folder.
This RDF will work with RM, KM and of course IR.

If you could use this as a base for your updates as you go through your test it
would help me.

Thanks

Nils

Should I upload the current rdf to the yahoo group?

   I have it at:
   http://www.cs.umn.edu/~mein/jp1/INTU_rdf.txt

As well as a bunch of other info I found on the remote at
   http://www.cs.umn.edu/~mein/jp1

I think its pretty far along, at least compaired to some of the
   other rdf's out there.

Things that need to be worked on:
Macro thing is still a little goofy.
         If I program a macro via remote $015 cycles through 00, 40, 80
If I do it through jp1 starts at 00 then goes to 11
ButtonMaps are probably wong. I opted for more than less, really the
way it seems is for the vcr for example the only buttons that work
are the vcrdevice(power for the vcr), and the vcr
         buttons (ff,rew,tv/vcr).
Figuring out if there is indeed a power thing like the 810.

John,

Any and all questions for a while, at least until we say we have
the power thing figured out, is gonna be directed towards finding how
the remote handles the power thing. Kent didn't understand your
earlier post of today, and more than I did. Not a reflection on you,
just a couple inexperienced and basic dummies thrown into the task of
bungling our way through trying to figure out a workable rdf for this
thing. We each, having been together online with YM postulated a
theory at what you were actually saying. My GUESS about the position
thing was, at best as I can explain it: an upgrade code has a string
of hex. The first position of that string is part of the protocol
number. The others relate to buttons and their associated hex.
Somewhere in that string is a critical position which has our elusive
power command. Apparantly it can't be any earlier or later in the
string or it won't work.

Using this as an example: (From a KM uprade text file from a
different device)

Upgrade code 0 = 3F D6 (Misc Audio/2006),,,,Upgrade protocol 0 = 01
50 (S3C8+),,,,,,,,
50 00 70 3C 80 21 0A 4A 40 3A 7A 40 2A 6A 5A 1A,,,,36 36 01 8B 0E 84
41 08 07 00 2A 06 C3 00 2A 04,,,,,,,,
60 20,,,,C3 0D D9 8D 01 46,,,,,,,,
End,,,,End,,,,,,,,

The protocol is 01 50. The first "cell" is 50, which indicates the
protocol the upgrade uses. Starting with the second "cell" I haven't
got a clue. If I understand what you said earlier, someplace after
that first cell represents WHERE the power efc has to be stored.
Somehow we have to figure out exactly which one. I'm GUESSING again,
that you were suggesting using the power efc hex and manually
inserting (editing) that into each of those cells, one at a time
until pressing the device key turns a real device on. Then (guessing
again) that has to be in a specific location in KM or IR so Power
always comes up in that position in an upgrade.

More than likely all my guesses are so far off it's pathetic. I
can't believe I'm posting my stupidity so blatantly in public.
