Thursday July 7th, 19:00 (Doors open 18:30)
Long time TPC member and past president, Ken Cotton will lead a discussion
on Internet phone (aka. VoIP) services available for those of us living in
Japan. Thanks to the Internet the choices are almost unlimited.
A lot has changed since the meeting almost 7 years ago when Ken demonstrated
Net2Phone using the Internet PhoneJACK hardware and wrote about it in the
club newsletter. http://www.tokyopc.org/newsletter/1998/09/pcphone.html
We have come a long way, but still have a long way to go. High prices of
traditional phone services have been replaced by confusion, spotty service,
more cable clutter, power adapters and passwords.
Besides Ken's introductory overview and discussion of his favorite VoIP
platform, the Asterisk PBX, several other people attending the meeting have
offered to share their experiences with products and services including BB
Phone, Free World Dialup, Asahi, Nifty Phone, BroadVoice, VoicePulse,
Net2Phone, Stanaphone, and of course Skype.
Please join us and share your experiences good and bad and feel free to
bring along any IP phone hardware or headsets for show.
