Hi

This problem is not associated with JDBC instead this is problem
with SQL Server. Actually when you create resultset you have to fetch column
in same order in which they exist in resultset object. e.g following code
result in this error..

Resultset rs=stmt.executeQeury( "select name, address from client");
...
...address=rs.getString("address");
...name=rs.getString("name");
...

on the other hand code runs successfully.

Resultset rs=stmt.executeQeury( "select name, address from client");
...
...name=rs.getString("name");
...address=rs.getString("address");
...

The "Getting Started with JRun Studio"
(http://www.allaire.com/developer/documentation/JRun.cfm) has a pretty good
explanation in Chapter 6. You can also get to this by going to the help
files tab in the resource window, and going to Getting Started with JRun

Subject: Debugging and RDS

Hello all,
I'm having a problem getting the debugging feature of JRun Studio working.
The problem is I can never connect to the RDS. I'm pretty sure the problem
is on the
JRUN side and configuring the RDS but I can't seem to figure it out...

I've been told I need to :
install the rds-app.war file into the admin server (root URL
/CFIDE) and you'll need point JRun Studio at the port of the admin server
which RDS is deployed into (probably 8000)
To set an RDS from JRun Studio. Tools > Development Mappings

But I can't seem to locate the rds-app.war file anywhere...

Perhaps a step by step would be in order for the Jrun Documentation.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have got the answer. I was using buffering with auto flush set to true.
This causes an illegal state exception if some output has been written to
the client side. Thanks anyway.

Hi!

> is there any way to get included servlets to dynamically reload?

I've been thinking about this problem, and I thought I would share it with you.

When Java needs a class, it asks its class loaders. Each loader (there can be
many) is supposed to keep track of all classes it has loaded. If the loader has
loaded the class, it is returned. If not, it tries to load and return it. If it
fails, the VM goes on to the next class loader. If all fails, an Exception is
thrown.

Since the class loader keeps the list of loaded classes, the class is always
referenced once loaded, and won't be gc'd. The standard class loader can't be
directed to drop it's references, at least not through the public API. You can
check the docs for java.lang.ClassLoader for further details.

The JRun class loader for servlets, though, can discard it's loaded classes. I
can't explain the exact flow of events, but it seems that when a call is made to
the class as servlet, the age of the class in memory is compared to the age on
the disk. This seems not to be done if the class is called any other way.

> i have all the class files in my web-inf/classes directory and if i go to
> the servlets directly they will dynamically reload to reflect changes, but
> if they are included in a jsp they will not.

This sums the behaviour up. So, what can you do to get dynamically reloaded
classes?

1. You could write your own class loader, who checks this on every call to every
class. Please note you'll need to have your classes in a directory _not_ served
by any other class loader; keep this dir out of the classpath and the server
dir. I haven't tried this, so I can't say how messy it will be.
2. Get yourself a servlet, who's sole point in life is to check the age and
trigger the JRun reload of servlets. When you need a reload, touch the class
file and call the servlet. Since the JRun class loader (last I checked, at
least) throws out every class at the same time, all your classes would be
refreshed. (At least this was the behaviour in JRun 2.2.1 - I haven't checked
this on JRun 3).

Hi!

I've seen the same behaviour. We're using JRun 3.0 SP1 on NT, development
version.

For some reason the problem comes and goes. Usually the first version of the
frameset turn up two to four frames with the css-code in. It can help to back
out and go forward again (not reload). I suspect the css then would be cached.

Hi fellow JRunners!

The problem in short:
After upgrading from JRun 2.X to JRun 3.0(SP1 does not help) Netscape
browsers randomly print the content of the stylesheet.css file we have
externally linked instead of printing the HTML. But if I do a "View Frame
Source", I see the HTML it is supposed to print. The stylesheet is linked
this way (in a correct place in the <HEAD> part of the document):

<link rel='stylesheet' type='text/css' href='/SD/Stylesheets/Stylesheet.css'
>

I have spent several days with this issue, but have not found a satisfactory
solution yet. But I have nailed the problem down, and come up with a few
workarounds (described later).

Server Info:
I run JRun 3.0SP1 (With a web application named SD, consisting of pure
servlets), NT4SP6a Server, Netscape 4.75 (all Netscape 4.X browsers I have
tested have the problem).

The source of the problem is that Netscape is very sensitive of the
format/content of the response the web server delivers when Netscape is
loading external linked stylesheets, with this type of link:

<link rel='stylesheet' type='text/css' href='/SD/Stylesheets/Stylesheet.css'
>

With JRun 2.X, this was no problem, since it only served the files that was
requested with /servlet/ somewhere in the URL, IIS served the static content
(images, .js, .css).

This has changed in JRun 3.0. IIS now hands over ALL requests that include a
JRun web application name to JRun. Meaning that all requests that contain
/SD/ (in my case) will now be handled by JRun. JRun uses a special servlet,
allaire.jrun.file.FileServlet, to serve static content (None of this is
confirmed by Allaire, but my "reasearch" indicates this).

This is the root of the problem. The FileServlet seems to fail to format the
response to the request for .css files perfectly, so Netscape messes up and
prints the contents of the .css file instead of the HTML (formated by the
linked .css file). But as an additional complexity, this does not happen
consistently. The frequency varies, and one of our servers with Win2000,
JRun 3.0 (Not SP1) and IIS 5.0 has no problems. While other Win2000, JRun3.0
servers HAVE the problem.

What I have tried with failure:
* I have searched the Internet thouroughly, and I found one other person
(Phil Callister) with the same problem. ONE! I discussed it with him on
email, he had not found any "real" solution, just a workaround (I also found
this workaround, it is described later in this email). But that is
disturbing, I suspect that JRun 3.0 has a major flaw in it's handling of
.css files and NO ONE else has the problem? It turns out that the use of
external .css files seems to be rare (at least I could not find many
examples of it out there!). I believe that is why so few others experience
this, because JRun 3.0 HAS a flaw with handling .css files, I am 99% sure.

* I have spent hours trying to change the MIME type - file extension
mappings in JRun (and also in Netscape), but nothing helped. .css <->
"text/css" is not registered in the properties files in JRun, so I added it
to both global.properties and local.properites for SD. No good. I used the
admin tool for the SD app, added it there, no good. I manually modified the
Registry on my Win NT 4.0SP6 server, addedd the mapping every thinkable
place, no good.

* I created a servlet, CSSWriter, that writes the content of a .css file
(after reading it from disk) to the response, ensuring that
response.setContentType("text/css") is called. The I linked to this servlet
instead of Stylesheet.css. No good. I modified it, by manually examining the
response IIS sends when you request a .css file from it, so that my servlet
sent an EXACTLY similar response (with correct ContentLenght and a few other
"cannot-be-important" headers in addition to the ContentType).

What I have tried with success:
A) Create a virtual directory in IIS, named something else than my JRun app,
for example SDStyle. In this virtual directory I placed the Stylesheet.css
file. Then I changed my links, to this:

<link rel='stylesheet' type='text/css' href='/SDStyle/Stylesheet.css' >

JRun does not have an application named "SDStyle", so IIS serves the file.
And it works. The problem is gone. This was the solution the other gentleman
(Phil Callister) had also found (and used now, for several months, I
believe).

B) Stop using externally linked .css files and use <STYLE type="text/css">
</STYLE> tags instead. This is interesting:
One of the other developers here showed me that the JRun 3.0 Admin web site
uses externally linked stylesheets. I checked it with IE, and sure, they do.
I tried the admin tools in Netscape and they were fine. No problems. BUT
THEN I checked their HTML source in Netscape, they do not use externally
linked stylesheets if the browser is Netscape, they use the "inline"
version, with <STYLE type="text/css"> <STYLE> tags.

So it seems they have found a problem and used a quick workaround.

There are two major drawbacks to this method for us:
1. A much larger amount of data will be transferred from the server to the
client, since the style information now is sent everytime, instead of being
linked once and then cached in the browser.

2. We have to rewrite all our HTML pages (several hundreds).

Anyone else having this problem? Any solutions? Allaire people, any
information you can share with us? Is this a bug?

Hi Savant
you can set classpath for oracle thin or oci driver using JMC . In JRun
Managment console you will find link "java settings" under JRrun
Defualt/Admin Server link. in Java Setting you will find "classpath" in
which you can set full path for oracle thin driver like that
"C:/driver/directory/classess111.zip" .

if you don't want to use JMC you can edit local.properties file and can
set path in line
# Classpath
user.classpath={jrun.rootdir}/servers/lib;{jrun.server.rootdir}/lib;c:\\dire
ctory\classess111.zip

remember to restart server. Hope this will help you.

Also, if you want to use the TEST button in the Data Source panel of the
JMC, you must add the Oracle driver to the classpaths of BOTH the Admin JRun
server AND the server you are adding the data source to.

All you need to do is update the properties of the virtual "Scripts"
directory using the IIS admin tool (Microsoft Management Console) to reflect
the new location of the physical scripts folder:

1. open the MMC and locate the web site which contains the scripts folder in
question
2. click the "+" to expand the web site, right-click on the scripts folder,
and select the "properties" option
3. modify the Local Path entry to reflect the new location of your physical
"Scripts" folder
4. make sure "execute" and "read" permissions are set
5. hit OK
6. restart IIS and JRun
7. assuming nothing else has changed, that's all you should have to do -
JRun and the web server will communicate based on port and IP addr, so as
long as IIS knows where to find jrun.ini and jrun.dll, you're OK.
8. if you're using virtual web sites, make sure you've removed the JRun
filter at the global level, and have reinstalled it for each individual web
site

Hope this helps.

I'm not sure if this got through so here it is again. . . .

I am running JRun 2.3 with MS IIS web server. I had to move the Inetpub
directory from C: drive to the D: drive.

How can I reconfigure JRun to recognize the new location for the Inetpub
directory?

I know that JRun needs to know where to find the Scripts directory due to a
dll file it uses there.

Any thoughts?

I am getting a DuplicateKeyException from a CMP entity bean and I am not
sure why.

Here is my createSQL statement:

ejipt.createSQL=SELECT name FROM table WHERE id = ?

With the id being passed into the SQL statement the statement should return
a empty result set.

What are the sequence of events that the container goes through in order to
determine if the entity already exists?

What kind of SQL statement should I be using in order to get the create to
work like I am expecting?

I also experienced this problem and get around it by forcing Netscape to
reread the file from disk rather than cache.
I place the following at the top of my page and force it to be "expired".

<META HTTP-EQUIV="expires" CONTENT="Sun, 28 Dec 1997 09:32:45 GMT">

This always forces the page to expire and forces Netscape to retrieve it
from disk.

The draw backs to this approach are obvious, performance and the inability
to cache the page (i.e. return to it via the Back button).

Hello Jrunners,

When using the connector wizard to install the jrun isapi
redirector in IIS4.0, if I don't check the little box that
says to install it as a global filter, it reports success
but doesn't install the ISAPI redirector anywhere.

I'm trying to set up an NT 4.0 Enterprise machine to have
2 websites,(eg. the default website and a second one),
AND.... have 2 jrun.dll isapi redirectors communicating with
2 different Jruns(listening on 2 different jcp ports of course),
one redirector per website.

That's the holy grail. Right now I can add the Isapi filter by
hand onto the default server and it seems to work, but if I
try to add the Isapi filter by hand on a secondary web server,
the jrun isapi redirector does not work correctly. I can set
verbose=true in jrun.ini, start everything up and type
localhost:81/demo, In the redirector log I see jrun match /demo,
but then it apparently never tries to send the request to Jrun.
I don't see a handlejrpprequest().

So.... is it supposed to work to add the Jrun ISAPI redirector to
a website other than the default website, if not, why? If so, how
do I make it work? And... is it supposed to work to install 2 Jrun
ISAPI redirectors on different websites in the same IIS server?
if not, why? If so, how do I make it work?

thanks,

Hey Randy. The key to making this work is that you must create virtual
scripts directories under any new sites that you create in IIS. And each
virtual scripts directory must map to a unique physical scripts directory
under IIS. So, for example, create a /scripts2 dir under IIS, then map a
virtual scripts dir to that unde your new web site. When you run the
connector for a JRun server, you specify the unique scripts dir, and you're
all set.

Then, when you send a request to that new site's unique HTTP port, it
executes the jrun.dll in its own unique scripts dir (scripts2, in this
example), and points the request at the proper JRun server.

Try that.

Subject: JMC Connector Wizard Problem:If you don't select to install it as
global filter, it doesn't add any filter

I don't see a handlejrpprequest().

So.... is it supposed to work to add the Jrun ISAPI redirector to
a website other than the default website, if not, why? If so, how
do I make it work? And... is it supposed to work to install 2 Jrun
ISAPI redirectors on different websites in the same IIS server?
if not, why? If so, how do I make it work?

thanks,

While Pat is correct (thank you for the answer, Pat), I'd like to point out
that there are a bunch of ways in which you will find it apparent that
JRun's JMC is geared toward the single-user, single-server configuration.
We need to beef up the JMC so it's useful for more than just a single-user
on a desktop. The JMC doesn't do much to help users who have many servers
to configure, who have distributed configurations, or who want to configure
special situations like the one described below. The "special"
configuration is the most common type in production scenarios, and those are
where the JMC is weakest. I would ask users to please request that Allaire
support features like this if they are indeed important to you. Send
requests to info@... and mention that you would like them forwarded
to the JRun Product Manager, Mark Field.

Best regards,

My problem resolved. Actually the error was because of an extra charater in URL
String.
BTW how to specify initial size of pool and maximum size of connection pool?
If can not specify how JRun handling this?

Thanks in advance.

Savant

Also, if you want to use the TEST button in the Data Source panel of the
JMC, you must add the Oracle driver to the classpaths of BOTH the Admin JRun
server AND the server you are adding the data source to.

Are you sure it didn't restart or did it only show as stopped on the
Management Console? I found the page refreshed after the server had
stopped but before it had (re)started, so the html showed stopped. If
you just reload the page or click on the server name, you might see that
the server is actually running.
