It has been a long time since the last announcement, so I thought it was
about time I let you know what has been happening with JSci. Some of you
may have noticed that I have released an initial version of JSci for JDK
1.3. This package unfortunately lacks documentation, since I am having
trouble with the new javadoc. Until I fix this, you will have to take
the documentation from the JDK 1.1.8 version. I intend to maintain
parity between the JDK 1.3 and 1.1.8 versions as far as is reasonable.

I am still in the progress of making improvements to the next version of
JSci, so I cannot as yet release a full working package. Since it is
taking longer than expected (I experienced some file system corruption +
writing up my thesis), I will release incremental updates on my web site
in the mean time. The first such update is to the graphing classes
(xtra.jar). It includes the following changes:
- Foreground/background color bug fix
- Filled bars in bar graphs
- improved axis numbering
