Foundation is that same as Standard except it has the same
restrictions (roughly) as SBS regarding participating in a domain it isn’t
the main server for. You have a limit of 15 users rather than 75 as in
SBS though.
About doing Remote Desktop, you probably need to add the role
for it like you do on other 2008 servers. It is a supported configuration
in any case. You can see more at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/foundation.aspx
if you’re interested in Foundation.
If you want to do FTP to the server that’s just part of
IIS. Or else you could use something more powerful (my recommendation)
like Filezilla Server. It won’t use AD accounts though and offers
no LDP integration.

I have seen / used Windows Home Server’s public

familiar with anything without those 2 products.
Does something (besides MSFTP) exist out of the box?
Specifically, I would like the client to be able to
log into a website with their AD credentials, and based on some settings, have

I forgot about that product. It’s good stuff. In order to do
the per user reporting, you have to purchase a subscription… but now that I
think about it, you could probably hack together a monitor if you set a static
IP on the box for the one person you want to monitor.

Does the monitoring solution require stealth? Meaning, is it meant to monitor users suspected of bad behavior without their knowledge?
My typical response to this is to have your outgoing firewall log IP to web site traffic for one month. Then you notify employees what the policy is on the company Internet connection and present them all with a copy of the log.
This proves to them that you are actively watching what they do without singling someone out. Monitor a few mor months for suspicious sites, the repeat the policy and the log proof once a year.

Application or gateway device? Is monitoring the goal or merely
filtering?
For single end-points I have seen folks use SpectorCNE but that
does a lot more than Internet monitoring. We use SNWL content filtering at a
couple of places with success, but don’t do much monitoring with it.
I think Reflexion has a filtering service based on DNS but don’t
know about monitoring.
OpenDNS.org has some basic dns-based filtering and it’s free.

Almost all volume license software is licensed that way. For
example, volume license media from Microsoft will let you install Microsoft
Office as many times as you want. If you don’t pay them you are
breaking their rules and the law in the process. I would recommend
putting your effort into a good software usage agreement that clearly states
the limits and penalties for unlicensed use of your software.

Hi,
At CRM Innovation we are going to release our next S+S solution for Microsoft
CRM and I am considering including a Partner Licensing model as an alternative
in addition to the typical end user licensing.
Basically it would be 'similar' to the ShadowProtect IT Licensing model
Whereby they provide a CD I believe for use by one tech each year for a
renewable fee.
In our case we would license our service by a single account sign in to the
hosted service and the partner could then use the Data Import/Migration tool
with as many clients they work with each year.
In subsequent years they would renew the subscription.
What I am wondering is how does Shadow Protect manage the use of this recover
CD?
1. Honor system
2. CD which can't be cloned
3 Other security method.
Anybody know how they do it or alternatively do you use this same type of
licensing model from any other vendors?
With the SP IT Edition, the code on the CD expires quarterly –
the program starts up and then says it has expired and to get the latest
version.
On the first day (usually) of each quarter, such as yesterday, I
get a download link to pull down the latest ISO. The email states that
the link is unique, so I think they track downloads at each link, but I don’t
enter any other information to verify my access when downloading.
Basically, the CD itself isn’t copy-protected in any way
that I can tell since you d/l the iso. I’ve only burned a second copy
once when I lost the first one, but there was no issue in using it and no
verification. So, the CD portion is basically honor system, but there is
some authentication in downloading it and expiring it quarterly.

So Scott you bring up a good point.
S+S (software plus services) just think of it as an application that runs off a
webserver access via the browser, no client or local server code needs to be
installed.
Basically our application allows a user to create an account with us, then
provide the credentials and path to their Microsoft CRM application on their
server or at Microsoft's hosting facility. Then then can import data from a
local csv file on their client directly into their CRM system. We have all the
code smarts on how to do it - validate the records, do the mapping of the
source and target, do transformations (break full name into first/last fields),
etc.
If you have been around for a few years just think of S+S as sort of another
name for ASP (application service provider applications from just a few years
ago).
So in this question we would give the CRM consultant at a partner company the
ability to use 'one license' to import/migrate data into CRM systems at
multiple companies throughout the year for a fixed price. Rather than each
client having to buy the software.
Hope that makes it clearer.
In any event the key point in my original post was how is other applications
like the shadow protect IT version control fair use according to the terms of
the license?

Hook a computer directly up to your internet connection (outside
the firewall) and if it’s better then it’s a problem with your firewall or
internal systems. If it’s the same you tell your provider they need to look
again.

They have support for the POS system, it’s just the potential hardware issues they’re concerned about covering.
If you don’t find someone to do it contractually, we may be able

I am looking for someone with experience with Project Server 2003.
Installation and Integration (it's a fresh install).
For some reason, I have not had the best of luck getting a new server setup and
working correctly.
Send me an email if you have the time and interest. Thanks.
