Thanks for the suggestions.

I actually have 1Password and it works great =)

However, I like the idea that I can be doing something else, and press
a single keystroke to fire up my browser and login to gmail or
whatever other website I need to.

I tried and got the first cursor, but was unable to get to the second
input box, then press the login button. I tried recording, but upon
playback, nothing appears to happen once the Firefox screen starts.

You might also look into 1password, and the free companion AllBookmarks
tool:

http://agilewebsolutions.com

It pretty much does what you're asking for.

Maybe KM can drive AllBookmarks? Might be easier than trying to manipulate

Firefox has a macro add-on.

iMacros for FireFox version 6.1.1.4

it should do the trick if MK can't.

I have one other report of something similar happening, but have made
no progress in debugging the problem unfortunately.

One thing to try would be to turn your Macro Groups to activate
Always With Macro Palette. Thus a macro palette will appear whenever
you are in Safari. This might let you catch the timing of it not
appearing, which might enable you to determine what you had done just
prior to it stopping working, which might lead us to a solution.

Sorry I don't have a better answer for you,
     Peter.

You can have 1Password auto login by adding the magic string

?onepasswdfill=NAME

where NAME is the name of your 1Password entry (change spaces to %20
and encode anything else weird).

So for example, I can log in directly with something like:

http://www.randomsite.com/login?onepasswdfill=Random%20Site

First that from Keyboard Maestro and you're done.

Enjoy,
     Peter.

I have a series of macros that I use with Photoshop Elements 4 on a
Mac. For doing repetitive tasks, few macro programs can equal
Keyboard Maestro.

However (there is always a however) I want to be able to toggle a
checkbox in one of the menus. In resizing images, sometime I need the
"Resample" checkbox turned on and for other procedures I need the
checkbox turned off.

Is there an equivalent or the means to simulate an if statement such
as the following:

If Resample is on then
     do nothing
else
     check the box
endif

Any ideas, hints or workarounds would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I have a simple macro to map cmd-W to cmd-X in all but 2 apps: Carbon
Emacs and X11. The macro works fine in non-excluded apps and it is
disabled appropriately in Carbon Emacs. However, the macro is not
excluded as it should be in X11. In other words, when I type cmd-W in
X11 (say an Xterm), it still gets converted to cmd-X.

Is there a way for Keyboard Maestro to recognize X11 and turn off a
macro as desired?

I swear this was working for me with either an earlier version of
Keyboard Maestro or X11. Here's what I have now:
Keyboard Maestro 3.5
X11 XQuartz 2.3.2 (downloaded from http://xquartz.macosforge.org, not

the Terminal is your friend:

http://guides.macrumors.com/screencapture

and of course Keyboard Maestro can execute Unix scripts for you:

use the Execute - Execute Unix Script action, then set it to execute
script from Text (instead of File), and use this for the script text:

screencapture -S ~/Desktop/screen.jpg

This will capture the whole screen without user interaction; there are
also interactive modes to capture windows or portions of the screen.

I don't have Pages 09, but I'll assume that it is similar to Pages
08, and the Save As is a sheet, with the "Save in Word Format"
checkbox near the "Include Preview in document" checkbox.

There are a couple possibilities.

The best way is if there is a command key to toggle the checkbox in
the Safe As sheet, in which case this sequence would work:

Type the Command-S Keystroke
Type the WHATEVER Keystroke

The next option is to use the Press Button action to toggle the checkbox"

Type the Command-S Keystroke
Pause For 1 Seconds
Press Button "Include preview in document"

should do the trick. The Pause is necessary to allow the sheet to be
fully displayed before the click.

Failing that, you can use an action sequence like:

Type the Command-S Keystroke
Pause For 1 Seconds
Click Mouse At (127,383) From The Front Window's Top Left Corner

might do the trick. The click you can record while the sheet is
displayed to get the right location.

This is fragile, in that any slight change to the Save as window will
cause problems, and even resizing the Pages document may cause
problems, in which case you might need to set the size of the window
to a standard size first (using the Manipulate Window action).

Enjoy,
     Peter.

JJ gave a great solution, and with better options than just
simulating the key, but the way to accomplish this as you describe is
simply to open the System Prefs and disable the screen capture keys,
create the action, then re-enable the key.

>(Maybe the Simulate Keystroke editor needs to work like the Hotkey

It does, but Keyboard Maestro can only disable its own hot keys, not
hot keys in other applications/the system.

at least two methods work:

1) http://www.demon.cx/support/copy_first_3chars_A.png
go to beginning of line/field; select first 3 chars with Shift-
Rightarrow keystrokes; then copy
or you could for instance select the first word with Shift-Option-
Rightarrow

2) http://www.demon.cx/support/copy_first_3chars_B.png
select the whole line/field; copy it to clipboard; run a unix terminal
command to shorten the clipboard to the first 3 chars
The unix command to do this is: "pbpaste | head -c 3 | pbcopy"
Using "tail" instead of "head" would give you the last 3 chars,
instead of the first 3
This method works better if you want the first 67 chars ;-)

In both cases your answer ends up on the clipboard

again, two methods come to mind:

1) http://www.demon.cx/support/open-url-with-firefox.png
use KM to execute a Unix command which does what you want; see "man
open" for more details

2) or, you could have a KM macro that first simply starts up or
switches to Firefox;
then simulates the Command-L keystroke to move the focus to the
Location field;
then types or pastes the url you want;
then simulates the Enter keystroke

If you send the .kmmacros file to me (off list), I'm happy to add it
to the library - the user will still have to download and import the

Sure, use the Execute AppleScript action with an AppleScript like:

tell application "Finder"
	 set theSel to selection
open theSel using application file id "com.barebones.bbedit"
end tell

Change "com.barebones.bbedit" to whatever the bundle ID is for the

Excellent, thanks a lot!

Another quick question (should hopefully be simple). How do I make a shortcut
triggered
with a hotkey that only works with a specific app? (not globally)
I was looking at the 'Active Specific Application' action, but as I'd already be
using the app
that I want to run the trigger with I thought this wouldn't really be
appropriate.

Hi, another new KM user here.

Is there a way to let the mouse pointer jump to the _center_ of the frontmost
window? I see it
can jump to any coordinate relative to a corner of the window, but the size
differ by windows,
so it would be much more convenient if it can simply jump to the center of the
window.

Also, it would be nice if it could visually show the current mouse pointer
position on screen. I
often lose track of the pointer location, and end up "shaking" the mouse and
look around on
screen, just to find out where it is. It would be nice if the location is shown
(highlighted in
some way) with a single Hot Key.

Thanks,

I own KM, but use 1Password for my Mac for entering all user names and
passwords. Rather than explain 1Password to you, I suggest that you try
their website under that name. 1password has a master password and you can
store more user names and passwords than you can count in their system. I
forgot their nominal price, but it¹s well worth it.
