Dear K-Loggers (and especially Flavio),
K-Logs offer me an ability to leverage interactions and extend the group I
interact with. Here's how:
1) Posts to my K-Log are often pre-emptive. If I post to my K-Log what I am
working on and what I am thinking about, on an ongoing basis, there is often
little need to "ping" me for status reports or my views on various topics.
2) I can select the posts I want to respond to -- namely those that I can add
value to. I am not required to provide a response to every K-Log post.
3) K-Logs allow me to quickly add my thinking to news items I am interested in
(Radio has a "Post" button next to every news item. When I hit the "Post"
button the news item and its contents are automatically placed into my editing
window. Adding value is merely a matter of typing in a couple of lines.).
4) I can leverage previous work by linking to posts on my K-Log and the K-Logs
of others to respond.
5) My responses are made available to the entire group vs. only to the person
that sent me the e-mail. This cuts down on repetition of effort.
These factors combine to make me more efficient. It also makes it possible to
limit my use of e-mail to specific interactions with key individuals.
My hope is that companies, after adopting K-Logging, will see e-mail message
traffic go down. So, the hour an employee spends K-Logging each day (both
pre-emptive and reactive) eliminates 2-3 hours of e-mail work, and radically
increases the quality/quanitity of knowledge shared.
Sincerely,
John Robb
