Testing OS/2 editors this week with large interest in Kon. Excellent feature
is tabbed buffers. Some other features seem odd to me though I
may not be using them correctly.
In the File menu where previously viewed files listed 1-10 are: is the list
supposed to stay at 10? I have numbered choices but file list is now
at 15. Usually file list stays at a maximum set level.
Can directory and file histories be edited for File Open?
Using the mouse popup menu normally only have Paste, Undo, Redo in menu.
Sometimes I get a larger menu but can not determine where
that will occur. Suggested feature is make popup menu configurable and add the
Shift-F10 key so it can be activated from keyboard.
Smalled and Med have this feature.
Can toolbar be disabled? It appears one can add to toolbar but not subtract
from it. Such items as Cut, Copy, Paste could be removed if
normal use is through popup menu or keyboard shortcuts.
While tabbed buffers is excellent a further enhancement should be multiple
viewed windows, where 2 files can be displayed at once either
horizontal or vertical tile. This is such a useful feature. Med, MDIedit and
ExEdit do this nicely. Used MDI edit yesterday and had 3 files
viewable and could switch 1 to full screen or back to 2 or 3 viewable. Having 2
files viewable together would be further enhanced with a lock
scroll feature. Both files would scroll together. TSE/2 has this.
Can syntax highlighting be expanded? For example: html syntax is 1 color. Med
has a lovely syntax in that all parts of html code change
colors. Appears Kon could do this with manual config entries.
Kon is very close to ideal editor. Multiple viewed files is a necessity at
times, popup menu with modifications beats a toolbar, and be able to
control file and directory history would make it the best.
