I can't figure what's wrong. I'm releasing v2.01 solving those
reported issues with the download folder, while I keep on your
problem. Anyway, have a look at this new release to check if it's
solved collaterally (by chance, I mean :) ... but I don't think so,
actually.)

Claudio,
I cannot reproduce this problem. I've uploaded a test (look for
"testFolderDlg" in Files section) to determine if there is some
problem with the dialog itself. Please check it out if you have a minute.

I have tried downloading it twice, and have applied winzip, and the
linux versions of unzip and gunzip. None could read the file served by
sourceforge. Has anyone else had success?

The "G:" is my 2nd internal HDU and yes, I can browse and (luckily)
use all the data I've on it :o)))
Isn't a bis issue, however it happen.

There is a bug in the krinnicam interface so that no matter what you
set as download base path, it isn't transferred to the core module. So
krinnicam ends up writing every picture at the default folder. This is
what Leon Gent described. This bug has been solved for the next release.
In your case, there is something weird that brings up that exception.
As krinnicam (core) can't get any "correct" value as download path, it
takes the default folder.
What is 'G:\'? Can you browse files in G:\? The "..." button just
displays the system folder dialog, nothing fancy in that...
Thank you!

Hi Aristarco, this seems to be a correlated problem. I uploaded 2
images in the photos/misc area with 2 screenshots ot the situation.
If I depress the browse [...] button I receive an error (I can't
capture it) with an error of "Impossible to find the disk in the unit
\device\harddisk3\dr13".
I hope this help.

On XP Pro, with SP2, Nikon CP8800, the program (a)
does not operate the zoom - you've documented this for
us already (b) no matter the setting of where to place
uploaded files, they go into the "My Documents"
directory of the current user.
Hope this helps.

I'm puzzled as I don't see that behaviour in none of my systems. I'd
appreciate that you post here the contents of the exception message,
maybe that cast some light on this. What operating system are you using?

Well,
after started the program and extabilish a connection to the camera,
in the "picture download settings" if I depress the "..." button
istantly will appair an error exception. At this point after
some "ignore" button the program is again operative, but the pictures
are downloaded in the default folder "C:\document and setting ...."
I hope this help, for further details I've to try with the camera
connected to my home pc. (now I'm @ office)

Hi Sebastian,
.NET framework is only required by the GUIs (krinnicam_usb, _serial
and _dual) as they have been developed with the Visual Basic .NET
Edition (the one I had available), but not by krinnicam core library
(kcamserver.dll). You can run scripts with krinnicam v2 without the
GUIs and without the .NET FW.
I will be happy if someone develops a new and better GUI and release
it as GPL. Moreover, it could be even more interesting if someone
develops a GPL'ed "krinnicam"-like software natively for Linux.
Unfortunately, I don't (and won't) have the time for it.
Your sentence about .NET could be extensive also for the whole win32
environment as it is not GPL, but with wine, one can be more flexible
about this fact. Maybe if someone made a compatible framework that
works also under wine, probably we would forget this issue with .NET.
Please post here your issues with 1.07 (and log.txt file), I'll try to
help if I can. BTW, have you tried qemu? Yes, this would involve a
whole windows-based (and licensed) virtual computer just for a few
apps, but maybe you can get krinnicam working (I'm not sure if
krinnicam, with all that low level calls, could work under emulation...)
Thank you for your comments!
Regards,
Aristarco

Hello list members!
At 1st i want to thank the creator of this software for this good project.
This is my first posting, so i would write some sentence about me.
I'm a german student using a Nikon Coolpix 8400 for astronomy as hobby (in
future microscopy too), so krinnicam would be a great help of the interval
exposures. As i am too very interested in free software and Linux, i use to
drive some special software over WINE emulation environment. But now there is a
problem: the .NET framework, which isn't available under WINE environment. I
think version 1.x of krinnicam don't need it? Why are you going to use a
proprietary framework which is known as "home-calling"(de: nach hause
telefonieren) for a free software licenced under GPL?
I cannot unterstand this fact and don't want to use .NET on my clean and
relatively secure computer. Also i hope to get old krinnicam 1.x working with
my Coolpix 8400, at the moment it works not at all, using USB mass storage
mode.
This is just my honest opinion.
Thanks and regards from Germany
Sebastian Fuchs
Could you be more specific, please? Base directory, renaming options,
actual output folder/files...
Thank you

Platform W2000 SP4 etc. + Nikon E5000 via standard usb cable.

krinnicam v2.0 is available at sourceforge.net (
http://sourceforge.net/projects/krinnicam ), now licensed under the
GPL, as annouced here before. That means you can download also the
source code, for those interested.
Some of the new features added / reworked:
* Wizard-based installation
* Supports downloads via serial cable
* Initial delay now can be specified
* Flash, metering and EV controls added
* File renaming
* 35-mm equivalent focal lengths
* Improved log file structure
* Win98SE support (need mass storage driver)
As a result of architecture changes, krinnicam now comes with a core
module and three separate graphical user interfaces, one for each
cable type: usb, serial and dual. You can install only what you need.
v2.0 comes with several major changes from development perspective.
Core module is now a scriptable DLL, that means you can build your own
automated remote shutter programs by just writing a simple Visual
Basic script, or even you can write your own tailored graphical user
interface for krinnicam with Visual Basic.
More information at http://aristarco.com.es/krinnicam
Hope you find this new release useful.
I would like very much to hear from you at the group.
Best Regards,
Aristarco
Dear Aristarco,
I have checked ver. 1.07 with my Windows XP and Coolpix 4300 both with
USD and Serial cables. Everything is OK. I don't have a big statistics
yet, but it looks like that it will be also OK further.
BTW< I shall be glad to be a betatester of ver.2.0, if you need it...
With best regards,
Dmitry Makolkin.

I see. Seems very interesting for certain unattended time-lapse
photography, because with a hard drive one could shoot millions of
pictures. A lot of work, thought! Of course, I'll be glad to help. Be
the way, I'm about to release the second version of krinnicam, that
will be licensed under the GPL so you can get the sources, that should
be of help for your project.
I'm also about to release the firmware and circuit designs for
"kShutter2" which is the logical evolution of my previous "kShutter"
serial-based remote release for coolpixes, now including an simple
(but programmable) intervalometer functionality.

Aristarco

Hi!
Thanks for the interest.
I wont be using USB hard disk drive! I will connect ATA drive, most
probably the laptops HDD to the port, or may be a CF Card. FAT32
libraries for AVR are already in open source domain. I dont wish to
use the Serial port, it will be all through USB like krinnicam. A few
buttons, LCD and lot of experiments. I have ordered the board, and
after some basic experiments I will be needing a lot of help from you
guys.
Regards.

Very interesting! (even for other projects)
You would use the USB port (in OTG mode) to drive the hard disk, and
the USART to control the camera, wouldn't you?
It seems achievable, would you please keep us informed if you decide
to start the project?

Hi,
Atmel launched AT90USBKey. Its a $30 development board, and it seems
an Ideal plateform to make USB bases hardware remote. What I have in
mind is to attache a salvaged Hard drive to it and run a Krinnicam
like software on it so it wont need a laptop.

Hi group,
many of the comments posted here are related to download problems
under Windows XP. As for v2.0 I'm making considerable testing under
Windows 2000 (the development platform), all seeming to work fine. But
when I started testing under Windows XP, those issues started to arose
in a very random fashion. Unfortunately, I didn't (don't) have much
time for this project, and a few days working on it were always
followed by a few months freezed.
In the last few days I've worked again on it and concentrated
specifically in this download issue. It seems to work now (at least
under my 'vmware'd-Windows XP Proffesional), so I decided to release a
maintenance version before releasing v2.0.
Please post any feedback (both positive and negative, as always). In
fact, there are a few open posts with this problem (caprinski,
lennart4u, torstenfregin, and many others), I would like to hear from you.
Of course, you can find the new release in the Files Section.
Best Regards,
Aristarco
