I
am currently looking to fill the following Linux Application Systems Engineer
opening at DIRECTV located at our
DIRECTV Engineering is seeking a Linux
Application Systems Engineer to join the Operations team in a 24x7
environment. The Linux Applications Systems Engineer will be responsible
for the following:
- Implementing and administering
java-based applications that interface with either Oracle or DB2 databases
on Red Hat Linux based servers.
- Installing and configuring new
applications, maintaining and debugging existing applications,
installation and configuration of Oracle and/or DB2 database software.
- All facets of Linux System
administration including logical volume management (LVM) and
software/hardware installation, general Oracle and DB2 database
administration, and UNIX Shell or PERL scripting.
- Responsible for the management
of core systems within DIRECTV®, the largest direct-to-home
satellite television provider.
- Administer and maintain
Linux/UNIX/ Windows servers.
- Implement, administer and
maintain a highly available and scalable system infrastructure.
- Maintain and deploy DNS, DMZ,
and Internet related services.
- Work with offsite
ISP/Co-location vendors to administer and maintain hardware.
- Provide after hour on call
support on a rotational basis and the ability to work both independently
on projects and cooperatively with others when necessary.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in related
field (e.g. EE, CS, CE).
- At least 3 years of direct
experience or 5 years of professional experience in the area of system
administration.
- Candidate should have an
understanding of internal subnets against external Internet traffic and
technologies such as load balancers, firewalls, DMZ zoning, and VLAN
segregation.
- Strong familiarity with a
majority of the following technologies: Operating Systems: Linux, Windows;
Server platforms: x86, x86-64, IA64; experience with
the deployment and management of storage hardware: NetApp, EMC
Clariion, EMC CDL, Isilon IQ, and NAS appliances; SAN hardware and
technologies: EMC/Brocade, SAN Directors, Fibre-Attached storage, iSCSI,
RAID levels and best practices; Network related protocols: TCP/IP, SSH,
NFS, CIFS, FTP; Scripting languages such as ksh, bash, Perl, PHP, Ruby,
CGI, http; Relational Databases: Oracle, IBM DB2; High Availability and
Scalability Technology: Load Balancers, clustering software,
auto-failover, Ethernet bonding.
- Understanding and experience
with POPs (Points of Presence), ISPs and/or Telecommunication companies is
a plus.
- Candidates should possess
excellent written/verbal communication, problem-solving, and analytical
skills and be able to communicate ideas and concepts between different
departments.
- Must be able to work
successfully in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment, and effectively
multi-task multiple priorities in a team-oriented environment.
- Minimum travel will be
required.
- Ability to work after hour on
call support on a rotational basis is required.
