Automating the recovery of DB2/zOS resources will benefit both the DB2 DBA and DB2 system programmers sections.

The GENDB2 software tool will benefit both sections.

0 DISASTER RECOVERY Feature: Complete DR testing is available at the Hot Site.  Complete or partial DR testing is available at your Local Site using a (DR) set of BSDS.  This will allow you to verify the generated Utility (1) JCL, (2) Control Cards, (3) RBA/LRSN Numbers, (4) pre-allocation of your User Tablespaces Image Copies VOLSERs and other resources before going to your Hot Site.   This will give you a warm fuzzy feeling before spending company resources/money.  A Local Site partial DR procedure is documented in the Operation Guide.

0 IDCAMS AUTOMATION Feature:  This feature automate the creation of the DB2 VSAM datasets for DB2 Catalog and Directory Tablespaces, User  Application Tablespaces, Active Logs, and BSDS.  Eliminate the need to Disk Pack Dump at Local site, and Disk Pack Restore at the DR site.   Save time and resources at both sites.

0 DR ARCHIVE LOG COPY RECORDING Feature:  This feature will record the output of your Archive Log Copy input/output.  At the DR site the Delete/Newlog control cards are automated to replace the BSDS information.  Archive Log copy Tape to Disk is also automated for faster tablespace recoveries.

0 SINGLE TAPE MOUNTING Feature: Single tape mount for multiple tablespace recoveries in same job On Site as well as Off Site.

0 PDS AUTOMATION Feature:  This feature automate the recording of your PDS type datasets (dsnload, dsnexit, runlib, dsnlink) backups and automate the recovery at the DR site.

0 HISTORY RECORDING Feature: History records on the recovery of your user tablespaces. All history records contain Tablespace Name, Type of Recovery, Timestamp, and Userid who submitted recovery job.

0 Dropped Tablespace Recovery Feature:

GENDB2 records all DBIDs, PSIDs, and OBIDs. No longer will the customer be required to run reports and key-in OLD and Current ID information.  All information (dbid, psid, all obids, input and output dsnames) are displayed on  ISPF panels for the user.

0 DSN1COPY using Image Copy to copy tables from one DB2 to another DB2:

Automated generation of JCL and Control cards for DBID, PSIB, and all OBIDs.

0 DB2 Data Cloning Feature:

Unload/Load - Copy all tables in a database from a DB2 to another DB2 using an EXCLUDE table with load restart ability.

Customer may also implement these jobs in production status.

0 COMPLETE DATABASE AUTOMATION Feature: Allow the user to generate recovery jobs for ALL Tablespaces and Indexes in a specified Database from a SINGLE panel.

1.       Recover (Forward, TOCOPY, TORBA) all Tablespaces in a database.

2.       Recover Tablespace Group (Forward) and TORBA using Archive Log Mode(Quiesce) RBA System Wide.

3.       Check Indexes and Data on all Tablespaces in a database.

4.       Image Copy all Tablespaces in a database.

5.       Reorganize all Tablespaces in a database.

6.       Quiesce all Tablespaces in a database.

7.       Modify all Tablespaces in a database.

8.       Repair all Tablespaces in a database.

9.       Report all Tablespaces in a database.

0 SECURITY Feature: Allow the user to restrict the use of specified features of the tool by Userid.

0 CUSTOMIZATION Feature: Allow the user to customize the recovery jobs by identifying all variable names in DB2 and ISPF Tables and skeleton members.

0 INSTALLATION:  GENDB2 can be installed in 4 hours or less.   No hooks, no authorized libraries and the software support multiple versions of DB2 concurrently.
