Excelling at DB2 Monitoring and Reporting
Most DB2 monitors can load accounting and statistics data into DB2
tables. We can use spreadsheets as an adhoc reporting against this
data. Statistics rows show usage of critical resources during peak
times and accounting rows show which applications are consuming the
critical resources.
We will build an inventory of tables and column names and generate
SELECT statements from a Rexx exec. Each of our spreadsheets will be
focused on a related group of metrics over a meaningful time frame. We
will then subtotal, summarize and graph the data, building DB2
performance dashboards.
You should find everything you need on the First page, please let me
know if you have any issues.
Thanks,
John

Ok, I have TABLE-1, TABLE-2, TABLE-3, TABLE-4,TABLE-5 involved
TABLE-1 is a 1 to many on TABLE-2
TABLE-1 is a 1 to many on TABLE-3
TABLE-1 is a 1 to many on TABLE-4
TABLE-2 has a primary key of (TABLE-1_ID, TABLE-3_ID)
I want to insert records into TABLE-2 based on information in TABLE-1 and TABLE-4 but order the insert by values information in table TABLE-2 and TABLE-5
5 is the value of TABLE-3 ID I want to insert with whatever TABLE-1 id's comeback from the query of TABLE-1 and TABLE-4 with a toggle of 'Y' in the toggle field.
INSERT INTO TABLE-2( TABLE-3_ID, TABLE-1_ID, TOGGLEFIELD) SELECT DISTINCT 5 as TABLE-3_ID, T1.TABLE-1_ID, 'Y' as TOGGLEFIELD FROM TABLE-1 t1, TABLE-4 t4, TABLE-5 t5 WHERE t4.TABLE-4_ID = t1.TABLE-4_ID and t1.SOME_FIELD = 'value' and 0 < (SELECT count(td4.TABLE-4_ID) FROM TABLE-4 td4 WHERE td4.TABLE-4_ID = t4.TABLE-4_ID and t4.A_FIELD = 1 and td4.B_FIELD = 3) and 0 < (SELECT count(td4.TABLE-4_ID) FROM TABLE-4 td4 WHERE td4.TABLE-4_ID = t4.TABLE-4_ID and t4.A_FIELD = 10 and td4.B_FIELD = 83) and t1.TABLE-1_ID NOT IN (SELECT TABLE-1_ID from TABLE-2 where TABLE-3_ID = 5)
Alternately
INSERT INTO TABLE-2( TABLE-3_ID, TABLE-1_ID, TOGGLEFIELD) SELECT 5 as TABLE-3_ID, T1.TABLE-1_ID, 'Y' as TOGGLEFIELD FROM TABLE-1 t1, TABLE-4 t4, TABLE-5 t5 WHERE t4.TABLE-4_ID = t1.TABLE-4_ID and t1.SOME_FIELD = 'value' and 0 < (SELECT count(td4.TABLE-4_ID) FROM TABLE-4 td4 WHERE td4.TABLE-4_ID = t4.TABLE-4_ID and t4.A_FIELD = 1 and td4.B_FIELD = 3) and 0 < (SELECT count(td4.TABLE-4_ID) FROM TABLE-4 td4 WHERE td4.TABLE-4_ID = t4.TABLE-4_ID and t4.A_FIELD = 10 and td4.B_FIELD = 83) and t1.TABLE-1_ID NOT IN (SELECT TABLE-1_ID from TABLE-2 where TABLE-3_ID = 5)
GROUP BY t1.TABLE-4_ID
gives the same results
However, I can not do any of the following because I get duplicate TABLE-1_ID values with something like
INSERT INTO TABLE-2( TABLE-3_ID, TABLE-1_ID, TOGGLEFIELD) SELECT 5 as TABLE-3_ID, T1.TABLE-1_ID, 'Y' as TOGGLEFIELD FROM TABLE-1 t1, TABLE-4 t4, TABLE-5 t5 WHERE t4.TABLE-4_ID = t1.TABLE-4_ID and t1.SOME_FIELD = 'value' and 0 < (SELECT count(td4.TABLE-4_ID) FROM TABLE-4 td4 WHERE td4.TABLE-4_ID = t4.TABLE-4_ID and t4.A_FIELD = 1 and td4.B_FIELD = 3) and 0 < (SELECT count(td4.TABLE-4_ID) FROM TABLE-4 td4 WHERE td4.TABLE-4_ID = t4.TABLE-4_ID and t4.A_FIELD = 10 and td4.B_FIELD = 83) and t1.TABLE-1_ID NOT IN (SELECT TABLE-1_ID from TABLE-2 where TABLE-3_ID = 5)
I found a solution that is really quite simple; unless those who are more sql experienced can find an issue with it... All the pieces where in Google but it took me some time to piece it together so I thought I would post it. Also I am (for now) just sorting on one item but you can see how easily it can be expanded.
TABLE-1 PK = FEILD_B TABLE-2 PK = FEILD_B and FEILD_A (Which is the PK for TABLE-5) TABLE-3 FK = FEILD_B (PK = FEILD_E and contains FEILD_D which is a FK in TABLE-6) TABLE-4 FK = FEILD_B
FEILD_A = the value of a PK in TABLE-7, in this case I want it to be 5
INSERT INTO TABLE-2(FEILD_A, FEILD_B, FEILD_C) WITH TEMP AS ( SELECT Distinct 5 as FEILD_A, 'Y' as FEILD_C, t1.FEILD_B, t4.SID FROM (SELECT FEILD_B, MAX(SIGNIN_ID) AS SID FROM TABLE-4 GROUP BY FEILD_B) t4 INNER JOIN TABLE-1 t1 ON t4.FEILD_B = t1.FEILD_B INNER JOIN TABLE-3 t3 ON t1.FEILD_B = t3.FEILD_B WHERE t1.FEILD_F = 'Male' and 0 < (SELECT count(tt3.FEILD_B) FROM TABLE-3 tt3 WHERE tt3.FEILD_B = t3.FEILD_B and tt3.FEILD_D = 1 and tt3.FEILD_E = 3) and t1.FEILD_B NOT IN (SELECT FEILD_B from TABLE-2 where FEILD_A = 5) ORDER BY t4.SID DESC) SELECT FEILD_A, FEILD_B, FEILD_C FROM TEMP
Ok, I have TABLE-1, TABLE-2, TABLE-3, TABLE-4,TABLE-5 involved

Turns out I was missing a library, but I was unaware of this until I ran ./db2_install, after which it told me what I was missing. After I installed the missing library (don't remember what it was) ./db2setup launched just fine. Thanks for your help :)

Hi Bryan,
I have never been a big fan of the GUI frontends that IBM has decided should be placed in front of install / fixpack scripts so if it were me, I would forgo the db2set and use the db2_install instead.
Now granted it will take more work as all db2_install does is install the packages, so you will have to build the instance and the db2admin node, create users, do the db2set stuff, yada, yada, yada, but at least IF the script fails you get a much better error code than "ooops, something busted!"
However, back to the original question. Since we all love the pretty little GUI screens, make sure first that your services for such pretty graphics is up and running. Sometimes it is the graphics card itself that will not support x-windows type emulations.
You can also check your various Unix logs for any errors and the db2 install log may offer some help(emphasis on MAY), let us know how it goes and if we can be of any more help.
Thanks, John

I am trying to install db29.5 Express -C onto a new server (Cent OS5) when I go to run ./db2setup it spits back "DBI1190I db2setup is preparing the DB2 Setup wizard which will guide you through the program set up process. Please wait." but instead of launching the window it just kicks me back to the terminal prompt. Any one ever seen this?
What is the expended end time for this
event? I'm hoping to attend but need to shuffle some things around.
Thanks

Hi Folks:
I have a v8.2 UDB installation on Win2003 Std server. I've configured
for automatic maintenance, including a backup that is supposed to run
every night. I configured the options to force a daily backup. Any
ideas as to why nothing seems to be happening?
Thanks... Tim
Absolutely Tim,
Was there something specific you wanted to discuss?

Recovery Knowledge is please to announce an enhanced version 5.0 of
the GENDB2 software product. GENDB2 is a software product that
automates the recovery of DB2 for OS/390-z/OS resources Off-site
Disaster Recovery as well as On-site and automates many utilities
used by the DB2 DBAs and DB2 System Programmers. The enhancements to
the GENDB2 software product include:
DSN1COPY – Using Image Copies to copy tablespaces from one DB2 to
another. Automated generation of JCL and Control cards for DBID,
PSIB, and OBIDs
(1) To same DB2.
(2) To another DB2 with all IDs on same complex sharing datasets.
(3) To another DB2 with all IDs on another complex NOT sharing
datasets.
(4) Check
(5) Print
RECOVER SAP TABLESPACES – Or Grouping of any DB2 Tablespaces.
(1) Recovery Forward
(2) Recovery TORBA using System Wide Quiesce RBA residing on BSDS.
UNLOAD/LOAD The unloaded information tables and control cards is now
stored in DB2 tables allowing the customer to retrieve and load
tables as far back as the first unload using the GENDB2 software.
UNLOAD – Option to take backups of unloaded data and control cards to
be used at Local site or Remote site.
UNLOAD – Now GENDB2 will do the BLDG for SYSPUNCH and SYSRECXX to
create generation data groups for these tablespaces unloaded tables.
UNLOAD – The customer may now implement the UNLOAD GENDB2 generated
jobs into production status.
LOAD – Now the customer can do a restart of the Load process in case
of abends.
LOAD – Now the customer can select only certain tables to be loaded
when tables are destroyed.
LOAD – The customer may now implement the LOAD GENDB2 generated jobs
into production status using the Exclude table to exclude specified
tables based on target DB2id and target database.
