I don’t do DSC now, but one of my
technicians has done a lot in the past. Since I don’t remember what we
used, I asked her. Reply:
What kind of sample are they prepping?
If film, a
handheld hole punch works. If soft, a knife can cut. If brittle, it
may be bent and broken. I always used tweezers to hold samples –
either the special tweezers which we have purchased here in the past year or
any other delicate, good pinching tweezers. I will be happy to answer any
specific questions if this person needs to contact me.
Hope this helps.

Subject: [labmanagers] Sample
Preparation in the DSC area
I'm
looking for some information on types of tools used to prep sample in the DSC
area. We use a tool which was originally developed for punching hole in corks
and recently had a hand injury since with this stool the operator needs to hold
the sample with their fingers. Would prefer to have a tool which does not
require holding the sample with the hand or fingers
