Glad that Dr. Fernandez brought up the subject of  perceiving landscapes while traveling in a bus or train. I think it’s an important subject to explore in connection with landscape tourism. Let’s face it, nowadays most of us “appreciate” landscapes of foreign countries from the perspective of a fast moving vehicle. This in turn opens the question of whether you can appreciate landscapes in those conditions. The ineffable John Ruskin apparently didn’t think so because he said once: “all traveling becomes dull in exact proportion to its rapidity”.

I got that quote from Ruskin from a very good paper by Patrick Vert (from Queens Univ., Ontario) called : "Gazing from the Train Window: Spacetime and the Movilization of Landscape". The paper is on- line at the link below and I recommend it to all those interested in the topic.
