Thanks to Jorge for sharing with us his thoughts about Imagery and Popular Landscape Tourism. Pity that those Series are coming to an end, they widened my orizzonte so to speak.
A number of months ago, February of last year to be precise, I posted on the Message Board my famous (or infamous) Titivulus Principium: “Appreciation is for the intellectual elite; Landscape Perception is for the masses”. In the light of some of the things written by Jorge in those Series I’ve come to realize that the issue of landscape perception by “the masses” is not such a simple one as I thought; this mainly because “the masses” nowadays have become far more sophisticated than in bygone generations and also because the media-images are far pervasive.
All this has to do of course with a discipline called or to be called “Sociology of Landscapes”. I ask then and I ask again now: Anyone knows about a good book to start on that subject?
