Tittivulus (in his Messages #133 and #134) writes about his skepticism on the existence of `something' that could be called Landscape Appreciation. Some of the doubts he raises there are quite sound and I'd venture to assume that to some extent they are shared by most of us. It cannot be otherwise since, at least for now, both Landscape and Appreciation, appear to be extremely fuzzy concepts. As such, Tittivulus skepticism, gives us the opportunity to start a dialogue out of which, we hope, may emerge some new understanding of Landscape Appreciation, at least within a restricted group such as this one.
Such a dialogue (from Greek `dialogos' where 'dia' is through) may be approached at different levels of generality. It may involve personal, individual, experiences of appreciating landscapes or the attitudes and points of view of groups of persons with similar motivations (which is I think what landscaperian started with in his Post #135). It may, or I'd dare say, it must, include semantic explorations into the meanings of "landscape' and `appreciation of'. It may also deal with the questions at a general level, as exemplified by Haezrahi's three questions (Tittivulus #134). I myself intend to pursue this line in following Posts.
