I apologize for the rather notable lack of moderation here; I've been
very busy with some RL things and in some other fandoms. I'm sorry. I
have banned the spammers and deleted the messages from the archives;
since this has happened twice lately, I may put the membership on
approval only.
However, as was brought up in the other thread, this list isn't all
that active anymore, which is partly my fault, but also as was
mentioned, most of the linguists have gathered over at Guild of
Linguists, which is fine. The reason this list was started was to
provide a place for linguists to gather at a time when there really
was none. Now that there are other places for this kind of
discussion, this list may not be necessary any longer.
There are some advantages to a mailing list as opposed to a board,
one of them being that you can have the discussions delivered
directly to your inbox. I am open to suggestions as to what should be
done about this. Is there much interest in keeping the list going?
Honestly, I'm not going to be able to be here much in the near
future. I would probably take volunteers for a couple of moderators,
and give them the ability to ban spammers and suchlike in the future.
If the list is kept going, perhaps those of you who frequent the DLF
boards could post questions or observations which are active there.
There is no reason why the same topics couldn't be discussed in both
places. Not all members of this list are members there, and we may
get some different responses. Also, I had thought at one point of
having a D'ni writing contest of some kind--is anyone interested in
that?
I'd be glad to hear any thoughts you all have on these questions.
Thanks for your time!
