RE: [Los Angeles PUG] Re: New Palm at CES

Not sure what you mean by wondering "if the only way is via the keyboard."
It does have a touch screen. Did you know that?

This is one article that does say the OS is Linux. I included a link below.
I am looking for more confirmation. A Brighthand article included an
article update that states that the pre doesn't have a trackball. I wonder
if the only way is via the keyboard. I would think this is a slower way to
get to a specific place when creating or editing a document, note, etc.

Not sure where you saw that it is a Windows based OS. I believe it is Linux
based, but I am trying to confirm. On the Palm Developer Network page,
there is a statement you may have based your statement on: " Palm webOS,
Palm's next generation operating system, integrates the power of a
window-based operating system with the simplicity of a browser." Please
note that the word "window" is not capitalized.

Also, here is a link to the Texas Instruments web site for a pdf on the OMAP
3430 processor used in the PRE. Haven't determined the speed, but have seen
references from 550MHz to 1GHz so there are a range of speeds the processor
supports. The pdf states the processor supports all "high-level operating
system (HLOS) platforms including Linux, Windows Mobile, and Symbian OSes.

Which is odd, since the palm site indicated it's a windows based os,
and it would be WONDERFUL to keep my old apps. I wonder if it has a
virtual modem, to use phone minutes, instead of data minutes.

I wonder if Verizon will pick it up ? ? ?
