Back in the pre-Internet days, I used to receive chain letters promising happiness, wealth and all sorts of other good fortune. The catch was that I had to duplicate the letter and send it to twenty friends. Breaking the chain could spell disaster. With e-mail, chain letters have found a perfect medium--easy to forward and no stamps to lick. But now I find my email box clogged with all sorts of dubious offers.
