Welcome to Learn the Net News.
Is your small business planning on doing any hiring soon? If so, before you have the candidate sign on the dotted line, do a background check. Large companies have human resource departments that screen potential employees. Small businesses have the Web. You'd be amazed at what you can turn up when you know where to look. This week we show you how to get the lowdown on new hires.
As a kid, I used to love rubber stamps. I could spend hours reproducing the same image in multiple colors on sheets of newsprint. I was surprised to learn that my childhood pastime has made a comeback. Rubber stamp aficionados have elevated this humble rainy day craft into an art form. Our Web Tour this week reveals some amazing sites for stampers. You'll be dazzled by their creativity.

As most of you know, Learn the Net is a free educational resource and visitors to the site are always welcome to print articles for offline reading. Despite this, during our four years of publication, we have continued to receive e-mail from people asking for book recommendations for Internet novices. While there are numerous books available, my feeling, frankly, is that most of them are too complicated.
To remedy the situation, we've now published our own guidebook, "The Portable Learn the Net." Zida Borcich of Studio Z Mendocino, an extraordinary talent best known for her award-winning letterpress cards, designed the book. It has the flair that makes Zida's work so unique. This is definitely not your typical computer geek manual!
"The Portable Learn the Net" is a handy desktop companion if your are just getting started and a wonderful gift for anyone you want to help get online. For more information about it and to order online, visit this address:

Finally, proceeds from the sale of the book help support our ongoing free online publishing activities. For everyone involved in this project, we appreciate your support.
