Now that the summer is over, many people are beginning to think about career changes. A fascinating article in "Interactive Week", an industry trade magazine, explores the effect of the Internet on various jobs. Just as advances in technology forever changed the lives of blacksmiths, icemen and typists, the Internet is now having a similar effect on many occupations.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the jobs likely to be adversely affected are middle management jobs, such as bank clerks, financial record processors, secretaries, and computer operators. As the number of these jobs decreases, new ones will be created for computer engineers, computer support specialists, system analysts and desktop publishing specialists.
If you fall into the first category, it’s time to upgrade your skills. Learning new skills is not only a good way to stimulate your mind, but it will most likely increase your income too. With the explosion of online learning opportunities, self-directed people can take courses from the comfort of their computers.
