Hello Lebeau-Software subscribers,
I've just released the next version of ICQLaunch. It contains a new ability
to change ICQ's online status directly without first closing ICQ if the
account being launched is already running. This feature has only been
tested with ICQ98b and 2000b so far, so if you find this feature not working
for you, please contact me and let me know. Be sure to include the version
and build numbers of the ICQ you're running.
As always, ICQLaunch can downloaded from either http://icqlaunch.da.ru or
http://www.lebeausoftware.org
Until next time.

Hello Lebeau-Software subscribers,
I'm now working on the long-awaited next version of ICQLaunch. The main
change being made at the moment is in regards to it's ability to change the
online status of ICQ accounts. In the current version (available at
http://icqlaunch.da.ru), in order to change the current online status of an
ICQ account when it's already running, ICQLaunch has to shut down ICQ first,
change the status, then rerun ICQ. I'm re-working this feature so that it
doesn't have to close ICQ anymore.
My tests with ICQ2000b have been working very well. If any of you have any
version of ICQ *other than* the below listed ones, could you contact me? I
need help testing to make sure the procedure will work with other versions
as well.
Versions tested so far:
2000b Beta v4.63 build 3279
2000b Beta v4.65 build 3281
2000b Beta v4.70 build 3286
Thanks. Until next time...

Hello Lebeau-Software Subscribers,
I've noticed a few unsubscriptions recently. I just wanted to let everyone
know that I'm still here. I've just been very busy lately with my new
programming job, that's all.
I'm still planning on releasing my ICQ Chat Player as soon as I can. And I
do have a new version of my TMSAgent VCL component for C+ Builder ready to
release, but I'm just waiting to finish a few new companion components for
it as well first.
I've also been working on a new program lately - SourceView. It's mostly
for my own private use while I am making programs, but if it turns out to be
a viable enough program, I'll release it publically, and provide more
details about it. But the jist is that it's basically a text viewer being
geared toward viewing source code files specifically. If you would like
more information about it, feel free to ask.
I'm sorry I haven't been posting updates lately. Again, I've just been
really busy lately, but I am still here cranking away code anyway.

Lebeau Software
Hello Lebeau Software subscribers,
It's been a couple months since my last mailing, I just wanted to let you
all know what's on the horizon so you don't think I've dropped off the
planet or something.
First off, the long-awaited ICQ Chat Player is almost ready for it's first
beta testing. I just have some user interface issues to finish dealing with
first, but the core functionality is working.
For all you TMSAgent users, a new version is in development as well. It'll
contain mostly just bug fixes and internal code changes. There will be a
few changes, though, that might effect current programs. More specific
details will be provided when it's released.
In addition, a new VCL component package will be released along side
TMSAgent. This package will contain several new components that can be used
to easy turn regular VCL forms into input balloons ala MSOffice (ever see
the window that the Office Assistant uses to ask the user for input?).
Already included at this point are 4 components - TBalloonButton,
TBalloonRadioButton, TBalloonCheckBox, and TBallonPanel. The first 3 are
pretty straight-forward, except that they will all support the option of
changing the graphics used to render them with. This way, you can use your
own graphics for the checkmarks, etc.
TBalloonPanel, however, is the main component being released in the package,
the others are just companion components. TBalloonPanel is a special
component in that you can drop it onto any TWinControl-derived visual
component (not just forms) and it'll automatically shape it into a balloon
at runtime, complete with rounded corners, colored border, and a speech
tail, if desired. Since TBalloonPanel derives from TCustomControl, it acts
as a panel that can contain controls of it's own just like TPanel can.
Screen shots will be posted on my site soon of all 4 components in action.
That's it for now. Until next time...

Hello Lebeau-Software subscribers,
I just wanted to let you all know that earlier this morning, Lebeau Software
regained controlled of it's domain, lebeausoftware.org, once again. Which
means that http://www.lebeausoftware.org is now up and running again for our
website, and so are all of the <user>@lebeausoftware.org addresses. We're
quite excited over this, after not having our domain for the last month or
so due to expiration.
As long as I'm writing this, I'll go ahead and give you all an update on
what's in development right now:
The ICQ Chat Player is almost finished. I'm still working on implementing
the rest of the User Interface for it, mainly working on the support for
viewing of the chats in IRC mode. I'm also re-coding the support for the
Split, Horizontal, and Vertical modes as well. I'm still looking to have
this ready for public testing soon.
I've also been working on my first-ever screen saver. Nothing fancy, just a
full screen display of flashing lights organized in user-defined rows and
columns, with custom coloring and flashing speed. For the most part, this
is fully working, but I did notice a small quirk when running it under WinNT
when for some reason it didn't respond to the user moving the mouse around
or pressing any keys on the keyboard. I don't know why it did that. Worked
fine when tested under Win98 and Win2000.
I've also gone back and started working on one of my original projects from
a long time ago - my own peer-to-peer chat system. It'll be an
instant-messager system similiar to ICQ, only much more user- and system-
friendly, and will only have the essentials: online/offline messages, file
transfers, URLs, and possibly real-time chats (not sure about this one yet,
though). I'll also add support for user-selectable database engines, with
the first supplied plugins being for MySQL and possibly also SQL Server, and
I'll release a spec for users with programming experience to make their own
database plugins for whatever databases they want to make support for. One
of my friends has the server hardware to support a chat system, and my
partner here at Lebeau Software has some database programming experience.
So hopefully this project will actually take off eventually.
That's about it for now. Until next time...

Hello Lebeau-Software subscriber,
New versions of ICQLaunch and Serv-U INI Convertor are now available for
download.
The new version of ICQLaunch contains a few minor bug fixes, and also
support for a new /l command-line parameter. This parameter allows
shortcuts to tell ICQLaunch whether to load the specified account in a new
window of ICQ or not, bypassing the settings in the preferences for that
account. A new Launch option has also been added to the Shortcut Wizard
screen to accomodate this new parameter.
ICQLaunch can be downloaded from http://www.lebeausoftware.org
(http://lebeausoftware.brinkster.net if you can't get to the other address;
the domain is about to expire any day now, and it might be a little while
before I can get it reregistered again)
Serv-U INI Convertor contains a few bug fixes. This program is currently
still not available for download from my site, but it is available at
ftp://ftp.cat-soft.com along side the new Serv-U v3.0 released earlier this
week.
In the works, I am coming closer to finishing v1.0 of my ICQ Chat Player,
for playing ICQ's .cht files directly. For you C++Builder users, this
player will also come with a free TICQChatPlayer native VCL component for
implementing support in your own programs for reading ICQ's .cht files (in
fact, the player uses this component itself)
Until next time...

Hello Lebeau-Software subscribers,
I have a small request for you all -
I was wondering if there is anyone here who is able and willing to send me
copies of any ICQ .cht files that involve more than 2 users chatting? My
current working version of my upcoming TICQChatPlayer VCL component for C++
Builder only works with 2 users at a time, mainly because those are the only
kind I have to work with so far, and I want to see if there is anything
additional needed for my component to support more users than that.
Or, if noone has such .cht files available (or you simply don't want me to
view them), is anyone here willing to join me in a multi-user ICQ chat one
day so I can record some test data? If you're interested, let me know and
we can arrange a schedule that will work for several of us to chat together.

Hello Lebeau-Software subscribers,
Today I released a new version of ICQLaunch. It mainly only contains big
fixes, the only new thing in it is the new Clear Log option in the settings
window.
Also, for you C++ Builder users, I have been working lately on two new ICQ
VCL components - TICQChatPlayer and TICQAPI. TICQChatPlayer can read ICQ's
.cht files directly and provides for letting you write your own chat player
program. When I release this component soon, I'll also release a test
program with it that implements the component.
TICQAPI is a wrapper component around the ICQ API, for making access to it
easier to access and use.
I'm still waiting to receive some specs from ICQ, Inc. for some other
components I'll be writting later on.
Lastly, my lebeausoftware.org domain is about to expire, so there may be
some down-time for awhile while I set up the domain again and such. In the
meantime, if you have trouble ever getting to lebeausoftware.org with your
browser, you can reach the site at
http://www15.brinkster.com/lebeausoftware/ as well
Well, that's about it for now. Until next time...

Lebeau Software
Hello Leebau-Software subscribers,
I have just released a new version of my TRegExtension VCL component for
Borland C++ Builder 3, 4, and 5.
The main change is that I added basic unregistering support, so now file
extensions can be unregistered as well as registered.
I've also added a new Monitor property and new OnAssocChange event. The
idea behind this is that TRegExtension can now monitor the system and notify
your program that the information for a file extension has been change from
other programs and the system. I haven't been able to do much testing of
this new feature, though, and it does rely on system notifications that may
or may not be issued reliably (ie, other programs didn't notify the system
correctly of changes made, etc), so do let me know if there are any problems
with it.
In additoin, another overloaded Add() method was added to TRegExtension, and
a new EditFlags property and constructor value was added to TExtInfo.
Let me know how things work.
Now then, about the other projects I've been working on lately:
- updates to my TMSAgent VCL component, to support speech balloons that
contain buttons and edit fields
- my Serv-U FTP Server v2->v3 INI file convertor has been integrated into
Serv-U v3's installation program, and v3 is expected to be released soon.
Now you don't have to lose your existing settings when migrating from v2 to
v3. Until v3 is officially released, a beta of v3 is available at
ftp://ftp.cat-soft.com/beta as well as a standalone version of my convertor
(I may add the standalone convertor to my site soon, too).
- I've been spending a lot of time lately working on figuring out the file
format of ICQ's chat files, so hopefully I should be able to start work on a
standalone playback viewer soon. Lots of people asking for such a program
from Mirabilis for a long time now, so I decided to take up the challenge
and it's coming along slowly but surely.
- I did a little work on my ICQ Message Catcher this week, so hopefully I
may be able to go into another beta testing session with that project soon.
- I have a full VCL wrapper of the ICQ API in the works, for easy access to
ICQ's (somewhat limited) API from C++ Builder projects.
and lastly...
- I've received a request for a launcher program for MSN Messager that is
similar to my ICQLaunch program (http://icqlaunch.da.ru). I haven't decided
whether I'll persue that project or not, though.
That's about it for now. Until next time...

Beta 3 of the my Serv-u v2->v3 ini convertor is now available for download
on ftp://ftp.cat-soft.com/Beta
In this release, it fixes a minor bug regarding the conversion of v2 IP
Homes into v3 domains. Beta 3 is also integrated into the new Serv-u v3
beta 9 install program.
Beta 4 should be online by tomorrow. It adds support for conversion of v2's
** Default ** user account.
Also, for you TMSAgent users, no doubt many of you are familiar with how
MSOffice uses a custom balloon window for getting user input when working
with the Office Assistant. Microsft Agent doesn't support such a balloon,
as it's a proprietary control in Office. Lots of users ask for it, though,
so I've been experimenting with making my own balloon control, and so far
things are looking good. Once it's done, I'm going to incorporate it
directly into future versions of my TMSAgent component, so I'll be sure to
let you all know when that is finally available.
I've attached a couple screenshots of what I have so far. It already
supports custom font settings (font face, size,
bold/italic/underline/strikethru, variable/fixed pitch), window color,
border color, line color, up to a max of three buttons (predefined, for
now), user-defined pixels per inch, and user-defined characters per line.
Do you think it's worth continuing development?

Hello Lebeau-Software Subscribers,
I have just released a minor bug fix for ICQLaunch. It was reported to me
earlier tonight by fellow ICQLaunch user Curtis Matthiesen that ICQLaunch
displays errors if the settings for the account being launched haven't been
set up yet in the Preferences prior to launching the account. This has now
been fixed. ICQLaunch now configures any missing settings with default
values, and asks the user whether to continue loading the account using
those defaults. If the user declines, then they are given the option to
change the preferences or not.
The new version is 1.0.1.6 and is now available for download.

Hello Lebeau-Software subscribers,
I have just released a new version of my TMSAgent VCL component for Borland
C++ Builder.
First and formost, I now have a version available for BCB5, for those of you
who have been waiting for it.
Second, in this version, I have re-written a lot of internal code. But
don't worry, one of your hard-worked code needs to change in your project,
all the properties and methods are the same as before. Although, I have
added Left, Top, Width, and Height properties to the TAgentCharacter class
now in addition to the existing Size and Position properties, and also
removed the TMSAgent::ShowAgentPropertySheet method completely in leu of the
TMSAgent::PropertySheet property instead.
I would suggest you get this new version and try it out, I've made a few
optimazations in that it now doesn't load any of the sub-classes
(TMSAgent::Characters, TAgentCharacter::Balloon, etc) at all until they're
actually used for the first time. That should help a little in performance
as they are loaded on an as-needed basis. Also, these properties also
return NULL on error of loading, too.
In additon, I finally figured out the long-standing bug which could cause
TMSAgent to crash the program if you didn't disconnect from MSAgent manually
before the TMSAgent destructor is called (ie, setting Connected = false in
the form's OnClose event), even though TMSAgent's destructor itself was
disconnecting anyway. This has been fixed now.
You can get the latest TMSAgent version, v1.5, at

Hello Lebeau-Software subscribers,
I have just released a new version of my ICQLaunch program. This new
version adds support for putting shortcuts on the Windows QuickLaunch bar,
and also changes the behavior of the "Prompt for action" option so that if
ICQ is not already running, you won't be prompted for how to launch ICQ
since at that point there's only one possible way ICQ could be launched,
thus the prompting is just redundant and unnecessary.
This version also addresses issues regarding running ICQLaunch under WinNT
and 2000. Because of the solution I have to use to address those issues,
ICQLaunch has to use a separate DLL file now under those 2 OSs. I've now
created an install program for ICQLaunch to make ICQLaunch installation
easy.
The current version is now v1.0.1.5 and as always can be downloaded at

Hello there, Lebeau-Software subscribers,
I have a new program available for testing. It's called ICQ Message
Catcher, it records your ICQ messages when you send them to your friends.
The purpose of this is for "crash recovery" mostly. If your ICQ freezes up
or even crashes while a message is still in the process of being sent, you
will most likely lose that message and have to retype it all over again
after you restart ICQ. ICQMC allows you to easily copy/paste your message
back into the message window so you don't have to retype it all, especially
if you were sending larger messages.
In addition, ICQMC saves all messages to a recovery file, in case ICQ
crashing may take Windows out with it, and automatically recovers the
messages the next time ICQMC is run after you restart the system.
In short, ICQMC makes sure you don't lose a message even if ICQ itself does
lose it.
For now, I'm looking for anyone who's interested in testing this program for
me. Especially people on WinME, as I've had one tester say the catching
wasn't working on ME, but you can have any Windows OS for testing, I need to
test on all platforms. If you're interested, please feel free to contact me
and I'll send you the files. I won't have them for download off of my
website yet until further testing is done first.

Hello Lebeau-Software subscribers,
Sorry for the long delay since my last mailing (7/1/2000). College has been
out for the summer and I've been working full-time so I'm sure you all can
understand that most of my time was taken up. However, that doesn't mean I
didn't work on any projects this summer
I've been working on many projects in my free time. None are really ready
for testing yet, but I thought I'd let you all know what I've been working
on:
- ICQ Database reader
I came across some specs about the format of the ICQ database files, and
have started exploring possibilities for Database utilities. I know many
people keep requesting stuff like Message Readers and Database Mergers, so
I'm hoping to learn enough about the database formats to do these kinds of
programs. I've already gotten much of the ICQ99a format figured out so far.
- ICQ Webcam
I'm still working on my webcam add-on for ICQ, I haven't given up on
that yet. I've had to change the protocol used from UDP to TCP, but still
haven't had much success either way in transmitting the video frames in a
reliable, readable format. Will continue working on it.
- ICQ plugins
I've been trying to figure out how ICQ's plugin DLLs work. Just about
all third-party add-ons available for ICQ are external programs that "tack"
themselves onto ICQ. I'm trying to figure out how ICQ itself loads and
accesses plugins, like Voice Messages and ICQPhone (a new feature in
ICQ2000b which is currectly in alpha testing). Once this info is finally
decyphered, I can start making my own ICQ plugins. My webcam add-on will
probably be the first to be converted over to a plugin format
- ICQ protocol
AOL and Mirabilis have been working to merge AIM and ICQ together, or at
least to get them communicating with eath other. The new protocol is
currectly being analyzed by third party individuals, and when enough
information is available about the specs of this protocol, I'll start
incorporating them into my TICQProtocol VCL component for C++ Builder (this
component itself is still in development, I haven't had much time to work on
it lately)
- ICQ pager
I received a special request for a program that could send ICQ Pager
messages. He supplied the source code, I made it work.
- MSAgent plugin
For those of you Microsoft Agent developers who have always wanted to
use MSAgent with Netscape but couldn't since Netscape doesn't support
ActiveX, I've been working on a plugin for Netscape that is specifically
made for allowing full control of MSAgent in the Netscape browser. Tests
have been very good, but the plugin is about to undergo a complete redesign
soon. I originally had it made to run commands from an external script
file, but I'm going to incorporate new scriping support so that JavaScript
on the HTML page can access the plugin.
- MSAgent DLL
For anyone here who is a MSAgnet developer working with ToolBook, I had
received a special request for a DLL to be developed that could return to
the calling program a list of the animations for any MSAgent character, by
supplying the DLL with the path to the character's .ACS file (since I hear
ToolBook can't enumerate the animations collection).

You can download the upate from my website.
I'll continue work now on the next version, which will add a new design-time

Lastly, for all you MSAgent programmers out there:
I will release a BCB5-compatible version of my TMSAgent VCL component

been having troubles with their FTP server all week, I haven't been able to
upload files. The file is posted online now, and you can download it from
http://icqlaunch.da.ru
Now then, on to new projects:
For all you MSAgent programmers, I'm now working on a MSAgent plugin for
Netscape. This is not going to be another generic ActiveX plugin like so
many already available. This is being specifically written to make MSAgent
accessible in Netscape. So far, tests are going very good when testing it
locally. I'm getting ready to start testing it over the web soon to see how
it handles that.
Until next time...

Dear Lebeau-Software subscribers,
I have just been informed by an ICQLaunch user that he was unable to launch
his account after installing the latest release. I did a couple tests and I
noticed that there is indeed a bug that effects the "Automatically restart
ICQ with account" option.
For those of you who use this option, then you can go into the ICQLaunch
Preferences and select to use the "Open account in new window" option as a
temporarily workaround. ICQLaunch will be able to launch your accounts
again until I can get a bug fix released (though the accounts would
obviously open in new windows if you already have ICQ running).
I'll do what I can to get it fixed later tonight, and have a bug fix
released ASAP.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
