It has been almost 10 years since ZAP purchased the Lectra and all EMB
proprietary rights. In that time, ZAP discontinued the line (sometime in 2000)
and all tech support. For all intents and purposes, ZAP appeared to be
interested in the name Lectra and the phrase "Plug into the Future" and with
ZAP's line of 3-4 wheel vehicles, it never appeared that they have any interest
of motorcycles of any sort (I dont consider their scooter line motorcycles).
If it wasnt for the few dedicated enthusiasts and Scott, the history of the
Lectra and all that was attempted to accomplish would have been lost like the
Transitron Company and their electric bike and electric harley.
IMO, ZAP had the opportunity to be the only one to fill a motorcycle niche and
lost the chance. Now they must compete with other companies like
enertiabike.com , zeromotorcycles.com , vectrix.com , quantya.com ,
electricmoto.com , electricmotorsport.com , and a whole slew of conversion
start-ups.
