SUBJECT: Periodical Circulation in LexWin

One of the problems with periodicals in libraries is that circulating
them often means either barcoding all of them, or barcoding the
envelopes provided by the library to protect them.

LexWin allows for circulating any periodical simply by cataloguing
the periodical itself, and providing a single circulation number.

Here is how it works:

1. Enter a "circulation policy" for periodicals. That is an item
category for periodicals, and a loan period for each type of user.
Find this in CIRC-CIRC TOOLS-CIRCULATION SETUP. Check out the first
few options on the list.

2. Catalogue each periodical and provide a barcode number to each
title. You don't actually have to stick the physical label on any
particular issue.

3. In CIRC, enter the patron id or name.

4. Click the "periodical" button

5. (As prompted) enter the title of the periodical and select from
the list if your search didn't give a unique result.

6. (As prompted) enter part/volume information such as "Vol 2 No. 7"
or "April 1998".

7. When the periodical has been returned, simply click on "CkIn" and
click "Periodical". You will see a list of periodicals that have
been checked out in order of date. Select the appropriate magazine
and issue and you are done!
