Hi Renato,

I have added you to the LinuDent project on sourceforge. I agree we
can develop for Web and someone can add a non-web interface very
easily, or vice-versa.

I think we should produce a scheduler first. We should be able to have
a standalone scheduler that can be used without any other modules.

Thanks for jumping on board. Tell me whatever you think, either here
or to my email address superlinux@....

Thanks,

Steven G.

Hi,

There is a project on sourceforge already that trys to use and approach
like the one you described, but note that it is entirely on italian...
http://sourceforge.net/projects/odontolinux/

I was thinking about using also a client/server approach using
C/GTK+/MySQL. But I believe that doing it this way it would be a lot more
time consuming. I think that what we could do then is have 2 interfaces, a
web interface and a regular program and both would be able to co-exist,
using the same framework on the backend.

But before actually starting to develop the application it is necessary to
know exactly what are the software requirements. That is, what should, has
to, doesnt' have to go into the program. Also subdivide the program into
small tasks such as scheduling, patient profiles, payments, etc.

It would be nice having all of that before code starts to be written.

Hi,

I started this group a while ago, but have not spent the needed time
on it since. I am very interested in seeing it become a successful
project.

I am looking at completely changing the design of the software. I am
looking at a client server model using a web browser for the client.
This is the method used by freeMed and the other Medical office free
software. I am thinking of JavaScript and HTML for the screens, since
this should be a fast way to program the screen interfaces. Then
cgi-bin programs to connect to the databases.

People who want to contribute should sign up at sourceforge and email
me with your id's there, so I can add you as developers. I would like
contributors of all levels, leaders, idea people, programmers,
testers, etc.

Thanks,

I'm a lowly dentist with minimal programming know-how. Wrote a
bare-bones DOS program in dBase3+ then Foxbase then Foxpro2.0 to help
with billing, forms, taxes,etc... ..never finished it to my
satisfaction, but we have sued it every day for years, and without
catastrophe. What can I do to help ? I can try to get and forward some
demo's for existing products to give some idea of interfaces and
features. May be able to help define data file structures, indicate
possible problems... Time is limited, have 16 month old baby who
keeps me and my wife/partner busy. I'll try. -Ken Deacon DDS, Baltimore

Hi,

I am willing to try to work in this project, and I started looking at
sources, and at some posts in the mailing list but I thought it would be
best to ask everyone a few questions....

1) how is the GUI going to be done? Is there an intent to use a
multiplaform widget set like Qt/similar?
2) How is the structure/ideas behind the project? What I mean is the
software architecture.
3) is there any plan/is it there already support for multiple languages?
4) what's the status of the development so far for this project.

so everyone knows:
1) I'm not a dentist, but my father is... So that is my motivation.
2) I'm just a poor electrical engineering student w/  C/C++/SQL/LDAP/PHP
background.
3) I think i might start having lots of time to colaborate for the project
after I'm done w/ finals in about 1 week.

Happy New Year All!
Jim how is the practice in Centralia. I have been working on a maxillofacial
case record management for some time and working out a system on linux has
been a second alternative because most Dr.s re comfortable with Windoz! But
I have some success in helping people convert to Linux. What about you.
The main problem is the lack of a good Office suite for linux platforms.

Linudenters why is there no activity on this list of late? What is the
status of linudent?

Greetings to the group. There appears to be a downturn in available
energy for this topic. Or is
it gone underground.
I am a general dentist in Centralia, WA and have been given the
challange by my practice
management group (ExperDent). I am currently using Dentalmac (since
'93), currently running on
a group of G3 machines and appear to have no good option but to head
over to the Windoz
side of the fence. Is there an alternative in the Linux/OS X future?
I don't want to step on
anyones toes here in the group so please tell me if I am treading in
the wrong direction.
I don't know how I can be of help (besides cheering from the
sidelines) since I do not know
anything of code writing but I do have ideas of what would be great
(for me) in a dental
management program. I don't know if a 48 yr old brain can learn code
writing or if that is where I
can be of most use anyway. Feedback welcome

Thanks

Hi,

LinuDent is not yet ready for use. The first module planned is recall
appointment scheduling.

If you want, you may give us the specs of the computer you think you
might have available for her practice, and we can make sure it will be
functional on her system.

Thanks for your interest.

Hello LinuDenters,

I would like to announce http://www.linuxmednews.org and .com is now
open. It is a very interactive site that uses powerful publishing
software to:

'facilitate, amplify and begin the process of fundamentally changing
medical education and practice into a more effective, fair and humane
enterprise using modern technologies.'

It is very slashdot.org like in nature and I hope it will be fun and
interesting as well as being informative. Please visit the site, and
in the future if you have any important announcements for LinuDent, or
notice an interesting or important developement, use the 'post
article' function to list it as a posted article candidate. I will be
placing a link to the LinuDent site on LMN shortly.

Hi Vincent,

We don't need real time now. We don't need to think about it now. Later
we may want to think about it for interface with realtime hardware,
like intra-oral cameras and pager devices.

Yes, please start work on the modules you are willing to write.

I am working on a:

linudent-core - that starts up and calls the next modules
a library tester, to test for the presence of required libraries
   a module/plugin scheduler
   a message passing module

Thanks,
