Yes, I tried. But it seems that instruction doesn't work with the
network-manager 0.7 in ubuntu intrepid,
for NW just keep asking me for username and password, but I'm sure the
username and password are correct.
I also tried the command line method,
$ sudo wpa_supplicant -i wlan0 -c wpa_supplicant.conf -B -Dwext
in this case, dmesg shows the following message repeat over and over:
wlan0: authenticate with AP 00:0f:34:81:34:b0
wlan0: authenticated
wlan0: associate with AP 00:0f:34:81:34:b0
wlan0: RX ReassocResp from 00:0f:34:81:34:b0 (capab=0x431 status=0
aid=124)
wlan0: associated
wlan0: disassociating by local choice (reason=3)
wlan0: deauthenticated
Any ideas? Thanks!

Might be true, though as far as I know, there is only 1 significant regression:
http://www.ioremap.net/node/42
I wouldn't speculate on the kernel, unless several other distros are
equally slowed down across the same period (7.04 to 8.10 is spanning a
period of almost one and a half year, and I don't think the kernel
keeps slowing down over a year and a half without a lot of complaints
and blog posts.
Additionally some of the regressions don't seem kernel-related.
There's so far no noticable performance regression in gcc camp. Some
internal tests shown speed up instead. Though as C++0x gets
implemented (and used by developers) g++ performance _will_ go down.
At the end, it might come down to the fact that Ubuntu uses a lot of
very recent versions of packages. While they give advantages of having
more features, they are not tested that extensively compared to the
older version (plus, in Debian at least, patches that fix bugs and
regressions are applied to stable).
Luckily, (I hope) this won't affect most users with fast machines.

Yeah, seen that article too.
I wonder which are the components that are slowing the performance in
those areas down.
Probably kernel related? I heard they have been making quite a bit of
changes to the kernel lately.

that shows Ubuntu slowing down almost across the board in basic benchmarks (except for disk performance) from 7.04 to 8.10 release.

Without much fanfare, developers of Ubuntu Linux have delivered the
latest version of the open source operating system that scores higher
than Windows Vista in performance testing, does a better job than
Windows in making wireless connectivity easy and, overall, leaves
fewer reasons to stick with Windows than any other previous release of
Linux.
Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop Edition, nicknamed "Intrepid Ibex," provides so
much functionality and ease of use, at zero cost of acquisition, that
it is really impossible to ignore. For anyone or any business not tied
toMicrosoft (NSDQ: MSFT) legacy desktop applications, Ubuntu 8.10 may
realistically be considered a smarter choice in many scenarios.
During initial evaluation in the Test Center lab, Ubuntu 8.10 scored
big in both performance testing and in wireless integration - - areas
where Linux has had some trouble in the past.

Dear all,
After upgrade from ubuntu hardy to intrepid, I cannot connect to NUS
PEAP network (SSID:NUS) anymore, while NUSOPEN remains working. I
found several similar problems in ubuntuforums.org, for example,
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5973851 ; but found no
solution so far. Do you meet similar problem? Any ideas? Thanks!
Great! Thanks for sharing, Ruiwen. I thought that Perl was not for SG :P Soon can see people playing with Catalyst framework, haha! Btw, Perl is very sexy to me. After falling in love with Perl & PHP & C++, I hardly can love Python :P

Are there any Perl users or enthusiasts on this list? The Singapore Perl Mongers, a group of Perl fans and users in Singapore, is being re-launched after an eight year hiatus. If you're at all interested in Perl, please sign up for the mailing list, or send me an e-mail. With any luck, we'll have enough people to have a really fun meetup sometime in November/December.

Hi All,
Just to let you all know that over the coming months, the number of OpenOffice.org users in Singapore will be jumping up by a few thousand more.
Overseas Family School (OFS) have just announced their switch to OpenOffice.org with all faculty and students making the switchover (3500+ users on 1500 computers)
OFS has donated SGD15,000 to OpenOffice.org and they have authored and made freely available a number of training videos that may be useful for others making the switch to OpenOffice.org. See:
This has been a long time coming, as OFS, a large user of Mac OS X, have been patiently waiting for the release of OpenOffice.org 3.0 which has native Mac OS X support.
There has been much planning, testing, implementation and training work, with the faculty beginning the migration of documents over to ODF in January 2008. It is really great to now reach the point where OpenOffice.org and ODF are becoming ubiquitous within this large international school in Singapore.

While most PHP developers start off on the LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) stack there maybe a need to investigate OPAL (Oracle, PHP, Apache, Linux). This talk will discuss what Oracle offers PHP developers including operating system, database, middleware and tools support. You will find out how to take advantage of specific features in Oracle Database 11g that assist PHP developers such as Database Resident Connection Pooling with code samples and demos. An example architecture from a USA web company of a highly scalable PHP application that uses Oracle database will also be discussed.

Fantastico is suitable for complete beginners but you don't learn without getting hands dirty. After few installations, it takes you only 1-3 minutes to set up WP :-) You can write automation script to install too. That's pretty simple using Perl or PHP.
I didn't face upgrading issues with Fantastico but WPAU takes cares for back up and upgrade, why bother buying Fantastico?
Cheers, Viet.
