While we were watching Linux has grown up. It's no
longer the tech toy it was. It's become first choice
for developing and running serious business applications by organizations of all sizes. We'll be doing some Linux specific projects, but the goal will be to get applications
running so we can see what they do.
Some topics LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP)
development, content management systems, portals,
frameworks, e-commerce, details of hosting a web site,
ASP and CGI, DOM and JavaScript, basic and advanced
software development is a variety of languages - PHP,
Java, Ruby, Python, databases - MySQL, Oracle, Linux
in IBM's view - Zend core on i5, Alfresco, sourceforge.
This group may be a little heavy on the technical
side, but I encourage anyone interested in what
computers can DO rather than how to set them up to
attend. Microsoft, Apple and IBM users may enjoy this
too. No one is too dumb or smart for this SIG.
Open Source, free and do-it-yourself will be the
emphasis.
