The difficult choice of reference monitoring.   Message List

I imported this thread from the Logic list:

I'm shopping for an upgrade from my sony stereo which is quite
unadapted to my mixes needs. The range of money I can spend
is in the $500/1000 range, and here are my findings so far:

Wherever I look, I'll never find anything accurate and complete in
that price range. My dream is a pair of Dynaudio BM15 but I'd
have to kill my banker first. My mum would be mad.

If I have to compromise ANYWAY, why spend all my money and
some more on $1300 Mackie monitors that don't sound
transparent anyway? Same goes for the Yamaha MSP10.

It doesn't sound like there is a lot of choice for monitors in the
$800/1000 range, so that take us back to a good ol' pair of Event
PS8, the biggest woofer cheap monitors. They sound decent and
will leave me some cash for a Rode NTK.

But....will I need a subwoofer with those? How much is a sub?
Am I better off with smaller monitors + a sub?

BTW, I mix industrial rock pop songs, wierd aggressive distorted
sounds that some would call noise, and try and put them
together in some sort of art thing. Thanks for the help.
