OK....I know I'm not the only one who has had this happen but....

I'm working on this song, and somewhere in the back of my mind I think I have
heard it before. Now it could be my mind playing tricks on me, or I heard it
somewhere else, and my mind is telling me it's "MY" song (when in fact it's not)
<---did that make sense to you?

How does on ethically resolve this? I could let a few people listen to it, and
get their opinion, but if it is original, then I want to protect it first....

Anyway...I'm hoping I'm not the only one with this dilemma.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Chaz

I am about to submit a song somewhere, and I want to protect it before I get a
chance to actually copyright it. Also, I'm told it's better to copyright a group
of songs, or an album, because its cheaper. So until I have enough songs to
complete an album, I also want to protect each song I submit.

Any suggestions on the best way to do this?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

I guess you have some specific reason for recording it into Logic. If
using Jack to route iTunes into Logic it would be just a matter of
pushing the record button in Logic. Myself I use to record iTunes
Internet radio streams as a file directly rendered to disk by using
Audio Hi-Jack Pro. Then I can open that file in Logic if needed. I'd
like to recommend Audio Hi-Jack Pro, which is my main tool for
recording interviews by the MacBook built-in mic and to record Skype
phone call interviews I do for magazines.

I am new to Logic. Most recently I have been working with Pro Tools, but was
attracted to Logic due to it's compatibility with different types of
interfaces. I need to know if Logic Express 8 has a way of setting the
metronome at different tempos and time signatures in various parts of each
song.

For instance, I have a song that the first minute or so is at 150 bpm in 6/4
timing, and then changes to 110 bpm in 4/4 timing.

If Logic Express 8 is capable of this, can anyone give me instructions on
how to do it?

Does anyone know where to find templates for logic pro 8 similar to
those that come with the program and appear when you select a new file?
I'm looking for concert band, choir and big band among others.
Is anyone aware of templates that come as concert (not transposed)
Are there any score templates, concert/transposed for Pro 8?
The score templates for pre ves 8 will not import to pro 8.

I've been so happy with Italian Grand up until now. I'm recording a jazz
piece and the comping in the octave below middle C sounds murky. It's
mostly open 4ths, 3 note chords, so the harmony is stripped down already.
I'm hoping some of you will share with me particulars of your Italian Grand
preset choices. I need more clarity in that mid-range when the dynamic is
fairly soft. I can get it with Logic effects, but this introduces an
impossible amount of latency and gobbles up even more RAM. I want to get
close to a clear sound right within Ivory, which is why I'm off-topic I
guess.

There are obviously tons of controls for Italian Grand. I've been using the
Impressionist preset with a touch of editing, but suddenly it's not cutting
it with the comping. Any hints or tips on how to proceed? Meanwhile, I'll
be hunkered down with the manual instead of tracking. Just can't get a
sound right now...

Thanks, d.

Message posted by Fabian Hummel <me@...>:

Hello all,

I've used Logic Pro extensively for the past few years, so I can say that
I'm reasonably confident with most of its Audio/MIDI capabilities.
One thing I've never used, though, is Logic's film scoring features. Beyond
the basics (i.e. drag movie onto video track in Logic's arrange window and
play around), I'd like to know whether there's any good resources to get me
started with some of the advanced possibilities Logic & Film offer. Also, if
Soundtrack Pro has any relevant uses in favour of Logic, some info on that
would be great.

Beyond that, it would be great if I had someplace to get me started with
low- to mid-budget film audio know-how in general. I have experience
recording in a studio environment, so, again, I know the essentials.
Here are some of the questions I have:

* My current set-up is two AKG C-1000-S condensers set up as an XY-stereo
pair (on a boomstick) and hooked up to a field recorder. Sound seems decent,
but if anyone has any tips for improvement, they're very much appreciated.
* Is it usual to record film audio in stereo? Personally, I think mono
doesn't give nearly enough of a satisfying sound, but I've only ever seen
one boom mic being used on film sets.
* What sort of ratio of on-site audio to post-production dubs and SFX should
I be looking at? (Again, for low/mid-budget)
* How should I synchronise audio and video after recording? Is using a
clapperboard still standard procedure?
* What's the best way to combine audio and video in post? Adding recorded
audio takes to video in Logic Pro seems like too much hassle, especially
when you're dealing with multiple takes.

It might seem like I'm being lazy with all these questions, but none of my
web searches brought me any resources that were truly helpful.
I'm grateful for any help at all you could give me with my questions.

Thanks,
Fabian

These 2 fonts are from Sigler and were usable before Logic Pro 8.

I guess your best bet would be to export as OMF and as a standard MIDI
file. The OMF file will import nicely into Logic (hopefully at least),
so will the MIDI file.

One thing to keep an eye at is the OMF exporting options in Cubase. From
what I remember there's something like "in/exclude fade files" or so in
the export dialog box. These should better be avoided in the OMF export,
as you may end up with lots of small weird sounding files that you'd
have to delete manually inside Logic.

Regards
Sascha

P.S.: Why did you post it to the L-OT list? IMO that's pretty much on topic.

Well, you are partly right. We don't support projects and we have no way of
setting up a working group or anything like that. But SoundCloud is really ideal
for sharing not only complete tracks but also samples and work in progress.
People you trust can then comment on the piece and give feedback. So it can be
used for collaborating and some producers already do actually.

We are also thinking about collaborative aspects continuously and will try to
enhance those features in the future. Hope that you still find the service
useful.

Cheers
