[LAW] dual soundcard setup, including one Audiowerk2... please help!   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #102366 of 245784 |
I have an Audiowerk2 (which I want to use, because of its lower latency etc,
as my primary sound card).... as well as a Soundblaster, which I want to use
to monitor from for now (it supports my 4.1 setup, has MIDI I/O which I need
at the moment, etc)... but I'm having troubles getting this set up correctly
in Logic. I've searched the message archives and the InfoWeb and I'm still
stumped.

Since I don't want to use an ASIO driver for the Audiowerk or Soundblaster,
I'm pretty sure all my configuring needs to be done in the "Audio > Hardware
& Drivers > Audio Device" area of the settings......

My problem is that even if I have *both* Audiowerk2 and PC/AV checkmarked in
the settings, and *both* "software monitoring" options checked... when I
assign my Audio Objects to use the Audiowerk card no sound will come out of
my Soundblaster at all.

Can anyone help me with the necessary settings for using two sound cards
like this?

Here's what I've tried so far, though none of this has worked quite yet. In
all cases I've been assigning my Audio Objects to use "AW" (Audiowerk)...
Which is correct if I want the Audiowerk2 to be handling the various audio
tracks, right? I have not had a chance to use any VST plugin instruments on
this system yet. Right now I'm just trying to get regular audio tracks
playing regular .wav files to be processed by the Audiowerk and play out of
the speakers connected to my Soundblaster.

Try #1:
PC/AV checked...
EASI DirectX driver selected (for the SoundBlaster presumably)
in the EASI DirectX Control Panel, the "output device" is set to SB
Wave Out
Software Monitoring checked (the top one, under PC/AV)
20/24 bit recording UN-checked
Larger Disk Buffer UN-checked
Larger Process Buffer UN-checked
Wave Player checked and set to SB Wave Out
Audiowerk2 checked
Software Monitoring checked (the bottom one, under Audiowerk2)
20/24 bit recording UN-checked
Larger Disk Buffer UN-checked
Larger Process Buffer UN-checked

Try #2:
PC/AV UNchecked...
PC/AV Driver set to "no driver"
Software Monitoring UN-checked (the top one, under PC/AV)
20/24 bit recording UN-checked
Larger Disk Buffer UN-checked
Larger Process Buffer UN-checked
Wave Player checked and set to SB Wave Out
Audiowerk2 checked
Software Monitoring checked (the bottom one, under Audiowerk2)
20/24 bit recording UN-checked
Larger Disk Buffer UN-checked
Larger Process Buffer UN-checked

Again, since I'm not going to be using an ASIO driver these settings are all
on the Audio Device tab. Maybe I should use the Audiowerk2 ASIO driver and
set that up in the 'Audio Device 2' section, and leave 'Audiowerk'
UN-checked in the 'Audio Device' section? But surely Logic's native drivers
for the Audiowerk2 will work better than the ASIO drivers for it.... Maybe I
just need to somehow assign the SoundBlaster to the Master Out object in the
Environment??

Suggestions, ideas, anyone?

Thanks!!

Jeremy
