I am sorry to say it but I can answer my own question now. In case
anyone had been having similar occurrences of this I further
embarrass myself by admitting that problem was simply that I had
somehow switched Instrument track numbers-when I changed the Track
back to #2 from #3 the Midi strings where just as I had left them, I
will RTFM's again to see what caused my confusion, I do have great
difficulty reading grey print on a grey background but once I opened
the mixer panel I saw it in white letters on a dark background.
