You may want to check my implementation of the same thing in the LPC2148
demo code (http://jcwren.com/arm). I don't recall what the actual rate was,
but it was faster than that. The problem, IIRC, was that the original
transmit service code didn't get called often enough. Even at 1Mhz, you
should be doing better than that.
