1998 under the name Mandrake, producing the Linux Mandrake
distribution. The name Mandriva was adopted in 2005, following a
merger between Mandrake and Conectiva (a Brazilian Linux distributor)
and also a trademark lawsuit in which Mandrake was sued by Hearst
Publications, an American company which syndicates a comic strip named
