Alan,
The lead sheets were readily available 30 years ago when I acquired them for a
different project, laying submarine cable. It is probably a little harder to
find nowadays. I still have some if you are near Savannah. However I like the
molded clay idea or molded clay and fishing weights. You only need enough to
equal the weight of the gear and drive motor.
