Well after getting some time to do some true sky tests using 59Ef
i have to say i am pretty annoyed with it.
Has anyone out there used 59Ef on an AltAz scope
and done manual 2 star aligns??????
If so i have been getting 2 bugs consistently, and i cant find
any reports of it by others, ( which i find strange )
If you do a two star, sometimes on the second star, the scope will say "slewing"
but not move. This is direction dependent.
I think i have fixed that, but now i have also noticed that if
you get a successful align, then you do a "goto",
the scope may work ( ie it does the goto and starts tracking ),
but if you then use the slew keys, it stops tracking :-(
Using the mode key to get to a top level menu allows the scope to start tracking
again, but if you are in a low level menu
like say Named Star/<Name> or <Name>/Details
using the slew keys will stop tracking.
Moding back to say Star/Named allows the motors to restart
Anyone else seen anything like this???

OOOhhh, and the clock is currently losing 2mins per hour on my rigs,
Dick Seymour ( who has different/earlier motor cards ) is getting about 30sec
per hour lost time on the clocks, but either way,
this really screws up accuracy as the night wears on.
Anyone else got different numbers ????
Gday All Well after getting some time to do some true sky tests using 59Ef i have to say i am pretty annoyed with it. Has anyone out there used 59Ef on an...
Andrew, Before I sent my 59Ef off to Dick, I did have some problems with positioning after a goto. It did not stop tracking, but there was noticable drift...
Gday Mark ... I'm pretty sure it did if you were Alt Az, but only one axis stops if you only use one arrow Also, you have to be in a lower level submenu before...
Help please, (Dick?), Having just got a wedge for my LX90 which has Autostar 59Ef, I have been experiencing similar problems to those reported by others. In...
Here's what I did . . . Buy an old version of 43Eg and forget about the new 59Ef handbox until they and Dick and Andrew and everyone fixes all the bugs. Life...
Mark, Dick, Andrew, , Thanks for the advice. I will have a go with some of the suggestions. Dick's suggestion seems very obvious, and easy, now that I have...
... Just a suggestion-- you could purchase a used 497 old style hand controller or buy a new one. And use that until Meade fixes the firmware for the new...
Hmmm. A new 'scope and a new controller which DOES NOT WORK! So we should go out and spend yet more money on an older version handset until Meade extract...
I agree.....there is no reason to accept a telescope that will not function. It should be the dealer's responsibility to refuse deliver of any telescopes with...
Joe, Peter, Dr Clay, Thanks for your comments. I agree with you that the hand set is 'not fit for purpose' and the correct solution would be to send it back...
Gday Malcolm Whilst i also agree 59Ef is not fit for purpose i do like the design/capabilities of the hardware in the new box. We have also managed to find...
Hi, Andrew, You and Dick S. do sterling work, and have no doubt spent many hours delving into the inner workings of 59Ef. And Autostar users new and old are...
Gday Peter ... I fully agree. I only got interested when an Aussie got a hbx and posted on a local forum re problems with my app. I then tried to allow for it...
Hi Malcolm, I have come to pretty much the same conclusion as you. I have a scope that works (using work arounds) and summer days that are numbered for...
Gday Doc Just to summarise/clarify the "non firmware" bits ... The Updater 5.6 does work correctly with "Firmware" loading into the 59Ef handboxes. I have now...
... The first trick is to start at DEC=0 (or lower), not DEC=90. Even then, leave it -very- loosely clamped in DEC, so that if it runs too far up it won't have...
Gday Malcolm ... We have a patch that fixes this, as well as planet calcs, GPS fixing East of Greenwich, PEC and a few others, but the clock also runs "very"...
OOps, should have been ... Just ensure the OTA is set just greater than 90 deg from the vertical hardstop, and it should work (And work only means get through...
