59Ef again :-)   Message List

Gday All

Well after getting some time to do some true sky tests using 59Ef
i have to say i am pretty annoyed with it.
Has anyone out there used 59Ef on an AltAz scope
and done manual 2 star aligns??????
If so i have been getting 2 bugs consistently, and i cant find
any reports of it by others, ( which i find strange )

If you do a two star, sometimes on the second star, the scope will say "slewing"
but not move. This is direction dependent.
I think i have fixed that, but now i have also noticed that if
you get a successful align, then you do a "goto",
the scope may work ( ie it does the goto and starts tracking ),
but if you then use the slew keys, it stops tracking :-(
Using the mode key to get to a top level menu allows the scope to start tracking
again, but if you are in a low level menu
like say Named Star/<Name> or <Name>/Details
using the slew keys will stop tracking.
Moding back to say Star/Named allows the motors to restart

Anyone else seen anything like this???

Andrew Johansen Melbourne Australia

OOOhhh, and the clock is currently losing 2mins per hour on my rigs,
Dick Seymour ( who has different/earlier motor cards ) is getting about 30sec
per hour lost time on the clocks, but either way,
this really screws up accuracy as the night wears on.
Anyone else got different numbers ????

All feedback gratefully accepted :-)

Andrew, Before I sent my 59Ef off to Dick, I did have some problems with positioning after a goto. It did not stop tracking, but there was noticable drift...

... Just a suggestion-- you could purchase a used 497 old style hand controller or buy a new one. And use that until Meade fixes the firmware for the new...

I agree.....there is no reason to accept a telescope that will not function. It should be the dealer's responsibility to refuse deliver of any telescopes with...
