RE: [m1oasys] Warning on BYO Limit Switch

could possiby been the wedge or the limit switch itself somehow loosened up.  Scott is aware and is investigating.  In the mean time I would suggest checking your limit switch to ensure the screws are tight and the wires are snug.

Chris,
Do we know anything more about the failure? Did it simply fail or did the magnet or sensor become dislodged?

Subject: [m1oasys] Warning on BYO Limit Switch
I got a report from a BYO owner this evening that the limit switch on
his BYO motor system failed and the roof crashed into his motor
assembly, causing some damage to his south wall. He does not have an
m1OASYS and fortunately was manually operating the roof at the time
of the crash so he could stop it in time to prevent it from coming
off the rack.

I highly recommend setting the m1OASYS open/close relay timing rules
to exactly the amount of time needed to open and close your roof, no
more then needed. This is contrary to what many have done, including
myself...relying on the BYO limit sw alone is probably not a good
idea, especially for a remote operation.

Perhaps someone who is at their observatory this weekend can work on
a rule to additionally turn the relay off once the roof open or roof
close sensor turns to a secure state. This will add an extra layer
of protection. I think this will work but will need some testing and
unfortunately I am unavailable for a few weeks.

A rule something like this should work;

WHENEVER Roof Stat Opened (Zn 11) BECOMES SECURE
THEN TURN Open Roof SW (Out 9) OFF

WHENEVER Roof Stat Closed (Zn 12) BECOMES SECURE
THEN TURN Open Roof SW (Out 10) OFF

This rule should only activate when the sensor actually triggers
closed, indicating the roof has reached an open or closed position.

Three layers of protection is always a good idea, 1-BYO Limit Switch,
2-Motor Relay Timing, 3-Roof Sensor Rule

I'll be traveling tomorrow but feel free to call my cell if you need
further assistance.
