Dear forest pest mavens:
I am happy to alert you to the upcoming meeting of the Continental Dialogue on Non-Native Forest Insects and Diseases, which will take place in San Francisco on October 27 & 28.
We are still working up the agenda, but - as always - it will focus on pathways of introduction and spread and ways we can work together to reduce these introductions and spread. While there will be some focus on Western examples of such problems, the group works at the national level. We work primarily through 7 working groups - and welcome volunteers to all of them! Those groups are prevention, slow the spread, working with industry, exploring new policies, funding for key federal programs, outreach/education, and managing the Don't Move Firewood website.
Times: A field trip is tentatively planned for Tuesday morning, with the meeting beginning at midday Tuesday and adjourning Wednesday afternoon. Exact times and an agenda will be sent out and available later this summer at www.continentalforestdialogue.org.
Meeting Venue: Fort Mason Center, San Francisco, CA
Hotel: Hyatt at Fisherman’s Wharf, 555 North Point Street, San Francisco, CA 94133. Rooms are available at a subsidized rate of $129/night plus tax. For reservations, please call 1-888-421-1442 and ask for the “Continental Forest Dialogue” room block. The cut-off date for the room block is October 5, and the room rate cannot be guaranteed after that date.
