Hi,

Might want to try burning a disc on titanium toast at 1x.......  wouldn't go faster.  quality is the key.  Haven't tinkered with 7 or below lately.

That server has the occasional outage. I just tried again, and it 
worked fine.

Regarding some other comments - I recently reinstalled System 7.6.1 
on my PB1400. When I started, I had both a System 7.6.1 partition 
and a Mac OS 9.1 partition. My System 7.6 installer CD was 
unreliable (giving errors during install), but I was able to read it 
on my G4 Cube, and copy the installer. I then burned a CD from Mac 
OS X (Tiger) containing the installer. I could read my burned CD 
when booted on the PB1400 under Mac OS 9.1, but when booted under 
System 7.6.1, the disk showed up in Finder as unformatted. I would 
have to check again, but I think I remember trying both the Intech CD/ 
DVD driver and copying the Mac OS 9.1 CD/DVD driver to the System 
7.6.1 partition (rebooting between), with the same result.

... Do not burn a new CD in a different format. All modern formats are already supported in the Mac CD driver. You must turn on several extensions on your SE...

Well....you do need to make sure you're not burning in HFS+/Mac OS Extended format as that won't read under 7.6, and that's the default under most things...

Yes! And more so, it is a good idea to burn CD's for the older machines at a slower rate, at least that's what I've found. Some old CD readers couldn't read...
