Not as far as I know.
There are two "netboot" extensions in the System folder>Extensions
folder. For "normal" booting you can throw these away, or, if you
think you're going to use netbooting someday you can place them into
the "Disabled Extensions" folder and later activate them using
Extensions Manager. I'd throw them in the trash and forget about them.

Do you actually need to boot directly into OS 9, or can you use
Classic OS 9 emulation while booted under OS X? If you can use
Classic, the video and mic are handled by the OS X drivers, not the OS
9.
When you installed 9.2.2 it should have installed ALL the ATI
extensions, which you can check under the Extensions Manager in OS 9
(Apple Menu>Control Panels>Extensions Manager), or in OS X under the
System Preferences>Classic>Extensions tab (remembering under Classic
ALL hardware extensions should be deactivated since these hardware
functions are handled by OS X). Normally Classic runs FASTER than
natively booted OS 9, so it's preferable to use Classic IF you have
plenty of RAM.
Another idea might be to start over. OS 9.2.2 is available free from
Apple as the netboot version, which is a complete version with two
additional "netboot" extensions that need to be removed from the
System folder>Extensions folder before using. Once these two netboot
extensions are removed, this is a complete 9.2.2 installation. This is
an OS X installer package, which means you'd need to be booted in
10.4.11 and then download the 9.2.2 installer and double-click the
package and install it onto the OS 9 partition, which you'd probably
want to erase first. Here's the 9.2.2 free download:
<http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120243#English>
If you're dead set on trying to "add" extensions you believe you're
missing, you can download the 9.2.2 Update from Apple and use
TomeViewer 1.3d3 (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/
4561) to extract only the extensions you need while booted in OS 9.
You can also do this from the OS X side by downloading the Netboot
9.2.2 package and using Pacifist to extract the extensions you need
(http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12743
).
I'm not sure how you're determining that you're not getting graphics
acceleration in OS 9 unless you see that the ATI extensions are either
absent or have a large black "X" across them in the startup icon
parade at the bottom of the screen? The microphone may need to be
activated in a control panel, for example, in OS X it's in the EITHER
the System Preferences>Sound OR the Utilities>Audio MIDI Setup
application. In Classic, ONLY these OS X controls work, NOT the OS 9.
If you're booted in OS 9, and the mic isn't shown in the Sound Control
Panel you likely need another version of Sound Control Panel. I gave
you the downloads from OS9forever that had these, and you can also
manually extract them from any of the individual update packages using.
There's a slight chance I'm all screwed up here, and that because your
iBook is the last of the iBooks that could boot 9.2.2 there was a
"special" version of OS 9 for it? I don't think this is the case, the
ONLY special version of OS 9 I'm aware of was for the final MDD
desktop PowerMac. I've owned a lot of iceBooks between 500MHz and
800MHz and none came with any special version of OS9, and the 800MHz
has the identical Radeon 7500 mobility graphics, so this means that
it's extremely unlikely that there was any change in the ATI
extensions, and I've never heard of such a change, and I pay close
attention.
If I were you, I think I'd either ditch OS 9 completely, and stick
with 10.4.11 100%, OR do a CLEAN reinstall of OS 9.2.2 from the free
netboot download. Remember, if you're able to use Classic, use it,
rather than booting OS 9.
Thanks for the quick reply. My problem is that I purchased this on Ebay and then set up two partitions, one for Tiger and then a small partition for OS9. Not having an installation disk, I then copied the os9 files over from my old Pismo, which was already at 9.2.2.
So, the update won't run. I just need the video drivers because there is no acceleration and the sound driver so that the mic works.

I don't think any were "special" drivers are needed. The ATI drivers
and the sound are pretty much freely available. They should have been
on a grey 9.2.1 CD install CD with the iBook, but again, updating to
9.2.2 will rewrite all the ATI drivers, so you might as well just
reinstall the 9.2.2 Update and that takes care of "the latest" ATI
drivers. If you can't get the microphone working, there are several
versions of the sound control panel application available for download

Hi
My Lexicon Core 2 died on my OS 9 midi studio machine, and I am thinking of
replacing with a Korg 1212. However, I can only find the updated 2.x drivers on
Korg's site, and it requires the 1.x original drivers first be installed.
The guy I want to get the card from has all the parts and manuals EXCEPT the
original Mac drive floppy.
Does anyone here either have the driver or a link to a working download of this
driver?
Thanks much!

Unfortunately, I have it on good authority that the National Instruments
SCSI-to-GPIB boxes weren't command compatible with the IOtech ones. I'll try
these but I don't expect them to work. Thanks anyway.

First thing I always check is the firmware revision on the drive. It
appears the final version was 1.05, so if your firmware is prior to
1.05 you should update it. Here's a link to the region free version of
1.05:
<http://pioneerdvd.rpc1.org/305x105.zip>
File came from this page:
<http://pioneerdvd.rpc1.org/>
I'm not sure what flash tool you'd use to update this old drive, it
may require a windoze PC?
Also, old drives only support the media available at the time of their
last firmware update, so there's a chance you're trying to use too new
a media with too old a drive. Normally there is a list of exactly what
media is supported, and you may need to find older media. On some
older SCSI drives you'll need an alternate driver in 9.1. If I were
you, first I'd upgrade to 9.2.2 using OS9 Helper from http://www.OS9forever.com/
. OS 9.2.2 had newer Apple optical extensions. OS 9.2.2 is a free
update available here:
<http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1387>
With older CD/DVD burners I've used Adaptec/Roxio Toast extensions up
to v.5 under OS 9, but this is not a burner. FWB CDROM Toolkit could
possibly help. If you use alternative optical extensions you need to
disable the Apple extensions in Extensions Manager.
Hi,
I installed the above mentioned DVD drive in my PPC 9500 under Mac OS 9.1. It
runs, however the medium will not mount. Can somebody help me out?
Thanks a lot and kind regards,

That server has the occasional outage. I just tried again, and it worked fine.
Regarding some other comments - I recently reinstalled System 7.6.1 on my PB1400. When I started, I had both a System 7.6.1 partition and a Mac OS 9.1 partition. My System 7.6 installer CD was unreliable (giving errors during install), but I was able to read it on my G4 Cube, and copy the installer. I then burned a CD from Mac OS X (Tiger) containing the installer. I could read my burned CD when booted on the PB1400 under Mac OS 9.1, but when booted under System 7.6.1, the disk showed up in Finder as unformatted. I would have to check again, but I think I remember trying both the Intech CD/ DVD driver and copying the Mac OS 9.1 CD/DVD driver to the System 7.6.1 partition (rebooting between), with the same result.

Yes! And more so, it is a good idea to burn CD's for the older machines at a slower rate, at least that's what I've found. Some old CD readers couldn't read anything burned on a CD burner, period. Better luck if you can find an old SCSI external CD burner, as these seem to work the best on the old Macs for reading CD-r media. I used to keep a couple around just for this reason.
Subject: Re: [MacDrivers] Re: Macintosh SE and compatible CD Rom Drives / Drivers
Well....you do need to make sure you're not burning in HFS+/Mac OS Extended format as that won't read under 7.6, and that's the default under most things nowadays...although, I believe Toast will let you turn it off.
I've had the best luck, on older macs with older drives, burning ISO9660 "with HFS extension" which is a setting in Toast. Burning from the Finder or Disc Utility has been hit or miss, but even then, with a lot of the faster drive/media now, you have issues in the older/slower drives regardless.

Do not burn a new CD in a different format. All modern formats are already
supported in
the Mac CD driver.
You must turn on several extensions on your SE to make them work. These names
are from
memory, so please try to be kind:
Foreign File Access -- this is the master extension that enables those listed
below
ISO9660 Access
High Sierra Access
PhotoCD Access
UDF Volume Access
Apple Audio extension
Extensions Manager is used in later versions to move these files back and forth
from
Extensions to Extensions (disabled). Then a restart makes them part of the
working
system.

Thanks for your tips!
I have a "new" SE that came with System 7(.5?) and a CD Rom Drive.
The SE seems to recognize the Drive (I used SCSI DIrector to check).
But it couldn't read the only Mac CD I have. Maybe this CD is not
compatible to older Mac OS...
Does anybody know how to burn a CD that's compatible with OS 7.5 with
a modern mac? (I'm NOT a modern-mac user ;)

Hi List!
Does anybody know if there's any Database about Macintosh SE compatible CD-Rom drives and drivers (and OS versions)?

That's a tough one. AFAIK there is no list. The problem is that Apple
did not include CD-ROM drivers with their
operating system until System 7. You can find Apple drivers for Apple
drives on their old software web site
for System 6. System 7 and later includes them.
The last version that came on 800k floppies is System 7.0. System 7.1
and 7.5 will also run on a 4m
SE (it may run on one with less memory), but you either need an FD/HD
or install it on external
hard drive using another computer.
System 6, 7 and 7.5 can be downloaded for free from Apple, 7.1 is not
free, but you can find it if
you search well enough on sites outside of the US.
There were 3rd party drivers for Cd's. I have a Toshiba drive that
came with its own drivers. CD-ROM speed
tools works fine on System 7 up, but I had a problem using the
installer on an SE.
There is a freeware driver called CD-Sunrise which will work with most
drives except it does not play audio
tracks.
Note that the only CD drives that can boot an SE are Apple, but it's a
moot point. There were no CDs of anything
before 7.5 and they only worked on the computers they were included
with. 7.6, which won't run on an SE
was the first "universal" CD.
