TimeSleuth 2.0 for discovering causality   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #1050 of 1123 |
Hi All,

This is to announce the availability of version 2.0 of TimeSleuth.

For those of you already familiar with TimeSleuth:

As of version 2.0, TimeSleuth claims to be able to distinguish between
causal and acausal sets of rules. It has tests to determine if a set of
rules denotes a causal relation, or an acausal relation.

Formerly it did not distinguish between "temporal" and "causal," leaving
this job to the domain expert. The basic idea used by TimeSleuth is that
if in a set of rules a decision attribute's current value depends on the
"past" values of the condition attributes, then the relation is causal,
while if the decision depends on the "future" values of the condition
attributes, then it is acausal.

Many bugs have also been removed since version 1.0.

For people not familiar with TimeSleuth:

Timeleuth is a software tool for discovering temporal rules. Its
easy-to-use graphical interface offers variuos tools that help the user
in determining temporal relationships among the variables of a system.

TimeSleuth is written in Java and can be run anywhere a Java runtime
environment and a graphical user interface such as Microsoft Windows or
XWindow is available. The package includes both source and executable
forms of the program, and has online help and examples to get the user
easily started.
